Melbourne boy skates with Lecavalier, Lightning
Ten-year-old Michael Springham knew he was going to attend a Tampa Bay Lightning practice today, but he didn't know he would get to skate with the team and his favorite player, all star center Vincent Lecavalier. But that's what Springham did as part of a special day arranged by the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Central & Northern Florida, the organization that helps makes dreams come true for children with life-threatening medical conditions.
Springham, along with his parents and brother, arrived at practice this morning expecting to watch the Lightning practice. Instead, Michael was ushered into the Lightning locker room to don skates and protective gear as he sat, wide-eyed, next to Lecavalier. Then it was out to the ice. Lecavalier led Michael around the ice as the team skated and loosened up, then helped the Melbourne boy work on passing and shooting drills for a few minutes before the team's regular practice session. "I just think Vinny is the greatest," Michael said.
