Some reports paint this as a murder-suicide. It's all developing... First reports were around 4PM, it's only just going national

News is breaking...

also a female companion found dead with McNair. At 1:30pm CDT, police were summoned to a downtown condo complex in response to shooting report. Police found McNair and female dead in the condo from gunshot wounds.

They have a prelim identity of the female but next-of-kin needs to be done before her identity is released.

No details as to time of death. No one in custody yet. Big investigation underway.

City is shocked.

Some reports paint this as a murder-suicide.

That would be a stretch at this point. Local police issued a *brief* statement and gave almost no details. Those reports are just wild speculation at this point.

He just opened a restaurant near the TSU campus here in Nashville on June 19th. He was very excited about his restaurant, and was there everyday mixing with the customers, serving food, and seemed to be about the next phase of his life. Shocking.

WaiverWire,

Is it common for a crime scene investigator to be in a full biohazard suit -- covered head-to-toe? What would that imply if anything?

Confirmed now that the condo the bodies were found dead in did in fact belong to McNair.

McNair's wife was out of town in Mississippi. Knee jerk reaction: McNair was with his side girl and they were the victim of a robbery or a jealous third person. Hope I'm not right about that.

I don't think any explanation is going to be very palatable. What a horrible turn of events.. Sean Taylor was murdered by random intruders. It could be anything.

I'm surprised athletes aren't targeted more, frankly. They're extremely wealthy, they're out in public a lot, and they tend not to carry around a ton of security.

Depends on the agency. Some do it for several reason. They do not want to be exposed to blood or other matter that could cause an illness nor do they want to contaminate the scene.

Sounds like the Nashville PD is very progress and are using the most modern techniques when conducing an investigation.

Report: Woman Shot To Death Was McNair's Girlfriend
Posted by Aaron Wilson on July 4, 2009 7:41 PM

The woman found shot to death today along with former Tennessee Titans quarterback Steve McNair was allegedly McNair's girlfriend, according to a CNN report that cited an anonymous law enforcement official.

However, the name of the woman hasn't been released even though she has been "tentatively identified."

McNair was discovered dead today in a downtown Nashville condominium, according to police.

Per the report, the condominium belongs to the woman with witnesses claiming that McNair was a "frequent visitor."

Nashville Police spokesman Don Aaron told Tennessee reporters today that no suspect is in custody at this time. And Aaron ruled out the scenario of a murder-suicide.

According to the Tennessean, Aaron noted that the woman killed was not McNair's wife.

Meanwhile, WSMV-TV in Nashville is reporting that the building is owned by Charles Cardwell.

Cardwell told the television station that the unit was rented to a man named Wayne Neeley, but that McNair used the apartment when he was in town.

However since its CNN I'll still remain skeptical. For all we know it was Nancy Grace who drafted the report.

And if someone in the complex or an acquaintance of someone in the complex knew he was a frequent visitor and wanted to rob him, then he was certainly a sitting duck for it. Or, if the woman had another boyfriend, then he was a sitting duck for that too.

Police are now saying that McNair was found on the sofa with multiple gun shot wounds. The woman was found with a single shot to the head and pistol near her body.

It looks like she might have killed McNair and then committed suicide. Or someone staged it to look that way....

Also the woman had been arrested Thursday night for DUI and McNair was a passenger in the vehicle she was driving. He was allowed to leave the scene in a cab. She was released on Friday.

Murder suicide. Perhaps he was trying to break it off with her.

Whoah, they just said that the woman and McNair co-owned the Escalade she was driving drunk. WTH was going on there?

Yeah, that strikes very odd to say the least. I want to know more but the more I check the weirder it gets. When I heard he was shot I immediately thought of Fred Lane for some reason...I hope nothing that sinister is afoot.

As a haze of confusion continues to permeate the circumstances surrounding the death of former NFL quarterback Steve McNair, a bizarre report has surfaced.

Per Ken Whitehouse of NashvillePost.com and the Nashville City Paper, McNair's murder was preceded by a warning that he would be killed.

Citing unnamed sources, Whitehouse reports that McNair was at the Blue Moon Restaurant near the John C. Tune Airport. A white woman in her early 20s approached McNair, accused him of slipping her a "roofie" a year ago, and said that her boyfriend was going to kill him.

I read that the wife was out of town but that she hadn't seen him for days. This is quite sad.

The woman he was found dead with was 20 and would classify as white.

What was he doing messing around with a 20 year old girl to begin with at 36?

The press asked the police at the police press conference late Saturday night about the alleged Blue Moon incident, but the police didn't seem to know anything about that.

The police did tow away two black SUVs from the murder scene.

Latest news from Sunday's Metro Nashville Police press conference:

Police now believe McNair and the 20 y.o. female companion died sometimes in the wee hours of early Saturday morning -- maybe around 1 or 2 am. The bodies were discovered around 1 pm Saturday by the owner of the flat -- there was no signs of forced entry -- as the owner had to use a key to enter the condo on Saturday.

The female companion -- according to neighbor reports -- apparently arrived earlier in the evening prior to McNair's arrival. It has been confirmed that McNair dined at the Blue Moon Lagoon cafe on Friday night, and then went to a nightclub called Losers late Friday night, before (presumably) going back to the condo sometime after midnight.

Currently tracing ownership of the handgun found at the scene. The handgun was apparently "under" the body of the female and discovered late Saturday during the scene investigation (presumably when the finally moved the body). At this point, the evidence seems to confirm the handgun found is consistent with shooting. Ballistic tests are underway.

McNair was shot four times -- twice to the side of the head and twice to the chest. The female was shot once to the side of the head.

While the police have not yet classified the female's death as either homicide or suicide (they are keeping an open mind), they are not looking for any external suspects at this time. They are however engaging in interview folks at the restaurant and nightclub that McNair was at on Friday night, as well as neighbors, etc.

The police said no neighbors reported hearing any gunshots in the wee hours of Saturday morning.

Police: McNair’s girlfriend bought gun Thursday (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news?slug=ap-mcnairkilled&prov=ap&type=lgns)

All I have to say is, if you have to cheat, why not just pull an Eliot Spitzer instead of risking it with a mentally unstable girl? Sheesh.

The 20-year old girl "just turned" 20 in late May, and the Escalade was a birthday present from McNair. So... she was really 19 until very recently. He apparently met her family that birthday weekend for the first time. "Dating" about 6 months and it certainly seemed like things were progressing in their relationship. All accounts according to her family is that she "thought" that a divorce from his wife was in the near future.

Apparently... the girl bought the gun used in the shooting(s) after the DUI last week (Wed nite I think; released Thursday) but before the fatal killings (wee hours of Sat morning). First of all, she bought it as a 20 year old; and 2nd there doesn't seem to be any waiting time involved -- although the police here indicate they are not sure they can charge the person who sold her the gun with any wrongdoing. Remember that McNair was a passenger in the Escalade the night she got the DUI, but he was allowed to go home in a taxi and she got to spend the night in jail -- although reports are that he bailed her out the next day.

They were not out together Friday night, and McNair came back to the condo around 1 or 2 am and may have been intoxicated. Toxicology reports will come back in a couple of weeks.

Both McNair and the girl were found fully clothed. Three of the four gunshots to McNair (two to the chest and one to the head) was fired from about 3 feet away. The 4th shot (to the head) was fired at point blank range. (Sounds to me the girl knew what tapping is all about.)

The single gunshot to the girl's head indicated the barrel was touching her head when it was discharged.

McNair was not charged with DUI because the SUV was registered in both of their names. He was busted for DUI by letting someone else drive his truck a couple of years ago.

I would like to know why the SUV was not impounded? And there is a report out there that there was a 3rd person in the SUV when it was stopped for speeding/DUI.

Apparently, both were seen Friday night at Losers bar in West End, before he went to the Blue Moon Lagoon. She apparently went back to the condo and he went to the Blue Moon.

Interesting break down Tim. I would think that what they are waiting for is the blood spatter pattern that she would have on her clothing if she in fact was the person that fired a shot from 3 feet away (blow back). Add that to the gun power residue test from her hands and this case would be closed as a murder/suicide.

Now they're confirming she did it, saying it was financial troubles and another affair (no kidding, a cheater who keeps cheating? go figure)..

Police: McNair shot dead in sleep by girlfriend (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news?slug=ap-mcnairkilled&prov=ap&type=lgns)

Sahel Kazemi “was spinning out of control” when she shot McNair four times as he dozed on a sofa early Saturday, then turned the gun on herself, Police Chief Ronal Serpas said.

Interviews with friends revealed that she was making payments on two cars, her rent was doubling and she suspected the married McNair was having a second affair with another young woman. end it,” Serpas said.
