NJ has been faltering lately, while Carolina has been heating up. I see great potential for upset in this one.
Wednesday, April 15 at New Jersey, 7:30 p.m.
Friday, April 17 at New Jersey, 7:30 p.m.
Sunday, April 19 at Carolina, 7:30 p.m.
Tuesday, April 21 at Carolina, 7:30 p.m.
*Thursday, April 23 at New Jersey, 7:30 p.m.
*Sunday, April 26 at Carolina, VERSUS
*Tuesday, April 28 at New Jersey, 7:30 p.m.
The "ignored series", tv-wise. Potential for no national tv games at all.

Let's go Whalers!!!!
:melodramatic:
I think this will be one of the best series. In fact, aside from Boston, these two teams, IMO, have what it takes to get to the finals. I think if Carolina started the year the way they finished it, they'd be in the 4 spot (barring more 5 on 3 PPs to help the Pens along).

Did anyone watch this one? The Vs guys made it sound like Carolina got their asses kicked.

Didn't watch much of it, but the numbers tell the story...39-19 in shots.
It was a Whaler-esque performance. LOL
I watched a period or so. Devils were flying.
The highlights made it quite clear to me. The Canes looked like they were skating in quicksand.

What a finish! Carolina gets away with a pretty blatant goalie interference and wins it with a nanosecond left on the clock after blowing a 3-0 lead. Brodeur went absolutely apeshit screaming at the refs and broke his stick against the boards.
The hilarious part is Versus cut away from the game just before the Hurricanes won it to talk about I don't even know what. Nice job guys. I bet Forslund wet himself with joy and then gave Tripp Tracy an extremely uncomfortable man-hug when that went in.

Scored by none other than Jussi Jokinen.
Way to be clutch somewhere else, Jussi. :D

Brodeur was way out in front of the crease whan there was bit of incidental contact with Jussi. No penalty.

I understand he was out of the crease but there was no one within 30 feet of Jokinen when he ran into Brodeur. Easily avoidable. If they're going to call penalties like that when the goalie is behind the net or near the boards at the goal line, I don't know why they didn't call that one too.

I think it's more of a case of the ref's not wanting to call any penalties in a tie game with almost no time left. Not saying it's right, just stating that the refs put their whistles away in the last minutes of the game.
IMO Brodeur was in goalie position waiting for a shot not moving around to get in Jussi way (unlike what Tripp was saying). Jussi skated right into him. If Brodeur was the dman Jussi could have been called for interference. Why is it different for a goalie? So frustrating.

I respectfully disagree that the Canes got away with one there. No way that's goaltender interference. Besides, the rule clearly states incidental contact with the goalie outside his crease is allowed. And, Brodeur is as much to blame for that contact as Jokinen was. Right call, good goal.

I totally agree.
Almost always, i side with the goalie on this and i like Brodeur.
But IMO, it was he who initiated the contact. Joki was just taking what he thought would be a straight line to get in front and Marty moved out into him. It's his own fault.
Now, if you change the rule and say anytime you touch a goalie below the dots its no goal, fine. But its not.

Finally getting to some replays from last night...I don't think that was goalie interference at all, he was outside the crease, it was incidental & it didn't prevent him from making the save.
There was an earlier Carolina goal (either 2nd or 3rd) that looked a lot more like goalie interference to me.

It figures that it would be Jussi who gets the game winner...what karma...crap.

That's ok, we got a 4th round pick and the honor of watching Josef Melichar for a few games
Not a popular series to comment on, but gotta love having another game 7 to look forward to. :)

This has been a sneaky good series. Two overtime games, a game decided at the buzzer, and lots of action. Anyone who thinks the Devils still play boring trap hockey is not paying attention.

If Carolina can somehow pull it out of the hat, we get an Ovechkin-Crosby war.

2-1 Devils after 1 :ohwell:
Heck of a time for Rolston to finally show up. 3-2 NJ.

Juice ties it at 3 with 1:20 to go in the third period. The entire minute preceding by the Hurricanes was one of the best shifts I've ever seen played by any hockey team, ever.

Jussi!
What a great 3rd, Ward had to make a lot of good saves & he did. Devils weren't giving them crap, I never thought they'd be able to tie this.
OMFG...that didn't just happen
OMFG.. Devils are down now. Choooooookkkeee...

STAAL SCORES. 30-some seconds to go. Coming down the right wing and just fires it home. Weak goal for Brodeur. 'Canes up 4-3.
Did Brodeur just pass the puck from his BLUE LINE for a scoring chance while on his way back to the bench? :D
Hurricanes win -- surviving a flurry in the last 10 seconds. The best news of the night -- it assures that either Crosby or Ovechkin will get knocked out of the next round.

I don't think I've ever seen anything quite like that. From a huge high to the bottom of the pit in a minute & a half, the fans they showed looked like they'd just been slapped.

How about Yvon Corriveau breakaway to win the series. O, misses the net. A minute later Courtnall scores a goal on a shot that goes under the ice at the Forum, according to Frank Pietrangelo.

I've watched the Staal GWG about 15 times now on On the Fly. I still can't believe it went in. Especially because Tuomo Ruutu scored the first goal of the game on pretty much the exact same shot.

Good to know the Canes pulled it off even though I picked NJ in the pool and it "cost" me.
Would be nice to have Bettman get a REAL TV deal.
Quote from the Versus announcer last night after showing about a 60 second teaser.
"Ahhh, unfortunately we can't show you the end of this game because of contractual agreements" (or lack of).
I would have loved to see the end of this one.
This is a great read.

So who thinks Jussi Jokinen still would not work out on the third line?
Quote off the Canes board
"Jokinen for Melichar....................Is that how you spell STEAL??? "

Did it hit the dman's skate? I didn't think so, but the Devils announcers said it might have.
Two weak goals against Brodeur. Who would've thought GT would have done the Devils in.
The curse of Patrick Roy lives.
(I'm making this up).

It looked like it may have, but I only saw it a few times & was too much in shock to evaluate.

Would like to hear Chuck Kaiton's calls....
The Jokinen situation is an example of a player getting a change of scenery and a role he fits on a better team. I don't think he's playing much better. He's just on a better team and his mistakes aren't being magnified by a bad team around him....
JJ was great in camp for TB, too. A player like that has spurts of greatness, then falls back to reality.
And if he doesn't fall back - good for him.

Exactly. By the time he was traded, he was very pedestrian. And that's really the career book on Jussi. Spurts of greatness. Mostly mediocre.
