My daughter is a freshman at college.
She informed me that last week she spilled a good amount of vitamin water on/in her Dell laptop.
It was less then 1 year old bought at Best Buy......without a kick it drop it drag it jump on it throw it in the gulf and use for an anchor warranty.
As she shut power down and pulled the battery the keyboard was not working but the mouse was and the screen was white.
The next day she tried to turn it on. No go.
She brought it home several days ago.
I brought it in to a very good local repair shop.
They removed and salvaged info off the hard drive, that is still good, to put her info on a flash drive for her to use at the college computer labs.
Today, I was informed by the shop it will not turn on and it is sticky all over inside.
Feeble warbling falling off cliff call for Help.

Ah the good old vitamin water:coolwink:, well I have also had accidents with the stuff but on my phone, all I did was drop it in some water straight after then leave it in an airing cupboard for a few days to dry. Still works:thumb: But I had insurance so I suppose I was willing to try the kill or cure method of sinkful of water.

Does she had a computer section at school. My son's does and he had a problem that everyone said could not be fixed. He took it in to his school's computer lab and the kids had it up and running in a few days!

Sounds like the motherboard needs a solid alcohol cleaning and then needs to sit and dry a few days.

Just an update, ended up working a deal with Dell. I called their support, their people are working in India and the laptop is sent to Texas for the actual repair.
They offered a repair for $358.00, I had a guy at work tell me they will take $250.00, so when he quoted me the price I immediately said something like "Richard...you guys are Dell, can't you do better on the price then that, this is for a college student with no money!"
Yes sir, I can offer the repair for 258 plus tax totalling $276.00.
I told him ok, lets do it.
They sent me a box to ship the laptop.
Shipped it out, sure enough, damaged motherboard, keyboard, and harddrive.
They replaced all that, plus the top chassis cover, but we got a letter in the box containing the computer upon return a few weeks later saying that the harddrive is being shipped out of ohio seperately.
Did not receive it after a week.
Called again.
Got India.
This guy wants to do a HD diagnostic, even after reading him the letter twice saying the HD was damaged and they were to ship another one.
Almost 2 hours later and after an aborted HD dianostic test he agrees to send the HD.
I schedule a call for my daughter so she may get walked thru the upload of the operating system and software.
I have him sent the HD to UCF address.
We bring the computer to daughter at college.
She uploads the software. The disk is pre formatted to make this process easier.
She is buying a cover for the laptop.
We have to send back the old hard drive. I believe they refurbish them. I have not seen it, but I think we received a refurbished harddrive.
I am not sure if I will ever buy another Dell, it was a nightmare dealing with India. They love to perform in house dianostics on your time...I sort of understand the cheap labor to fix a problem concept, but its really annoying when you know it needs service.
However, because the computer was still in the first years limited warranty, we were able to basically rebuild the computer for a reasonable price.
Can't really complain too much.
They of course offered their dropitkickitthrowituseitasananchorintheocean warranty, and its cheap, perhaps 110 bucks, but you have to renew the limited warranty each year and thats pricey. By the time you get done paying over the course of 4 or so years, you could have bought a new one.
