Who do you believe belongs in the All-Star game? .... the All-Star snub team.
Due to my work schedule, I usually don't get an opportunity to watch the All Star game or I just see bits and pieces. The little bit that I do see, I didn't find it entertaining. There is no defense, no hitting and that is one of the things that I enjoy about hockey. Does anybody else feel this way?

If you miss it, you're not missing a whole lot for the most part lol. I can't remember one that was even interesting since Khabi got that shutout period a few years ago, that was actually exciting.
Not sure on any snubs, but why they picked Hossa is beyond me.
As for the skills, who knew Vinny could shoot that hard?!
I believe Vinny was already in the 90's when he was a skinny young kid. Between him getting "old man strong" and the new composite sticks I'm not surprised he can hit 100.

I liked when Kaberle went 4-for-4 in the accuracy shooting and the pinheads in Atlanta barely made a sound. I'd like to think that if Ovechkin had pulled off one of those crazy Tiger Woods moves in the shootout contest at the end, he would have received a smattering of applause from that oblivious crowd.

I like the skills competition a lot more than the actual game

I'm not sure of the intent but I don't think that the NHL attened the new break away event to be a goalie showcase. In other words, "Get back in your damn crease and let the shooters shine".
I'm just sayin' I still upset that he came out on Marty...

Yeah, on both of his moves. It seemed like Nabokov was doing that to everyone though.
OMFG stop passing it! Man, just like watching a Lightning game at this point. So annoying..

I was thinking "hmm, I bet they feel totally comfortable here", lol.
The East feels extremely comfortable overall. No defense. Goaltending left to fend for itself. 5-1 after one period.
St. Louis with 2 assists. Lecavalier with 1 helper, too.
Yay interview with captain Vinny. Not sure why they call him a sniper, as if that's the only thing he does on the ice.. I mean not that he hasn't developed that ability, but still..

May have to do with the Richard trophy from last year
True, that makes sense then I guess. Just kind of found it odd after all the media talk about him being a complete player.
I was just talking to one of my friends in Atlanta and he seriously didn't know the All Star Game was being played there right now.. He thought I was joking the first couple of times I said it. Now he's not completely oblivious to reading the sports section and following sports in general, and doesn't actively hate or ignore hockey or anything, so if that's any indication of the coverage in that city then that's totally pathetic and sad.
That was a pretty thrilling ending at least. Legace was hilarious on the mic. Reminds me of Turco the year before.
Vinny passed up so many shots out there. Oh well..
Geez, Nash is good. Shoulda been the MVP. Or Nabokov.

That was one of the best all-star games in recent memory. I actually enjoyed it. Just wish they would play a little more d. But I'm not complaining.
I think we should draft the last Staal brother.
Legace was great on mic, but DiPietro was good, too.
It's unbelieveable to look at Legace and remember interviewing him in a tiny locker room in Barrie, Ontario during the 1996-97 preseason. At that time he was in the minors and the Whalers didn't think he'd be more than a backup. Good for him. Wish we signed him. Things might have been a bit different.

Agreed. Any clue why they picked Staal? He sure didn't look excited, either by the MVP nomination, or the new wheels.
edit#1: Oh, thanks to Osgood, for being a sieve for the second day straight, which ensured the East's victory.
And, for edit #2: Towards the end of the game, there was a West player putting his hands out, as if to complain he was fouled. And who was the jerkface West player that was roughing St. Louis up at the other end? Pronger maybe? Looked like he was pushing him in the uppper back or neck area, trying to shove him over. Real classy there. And...rigth after the MVP ceremony, who was Vinny having an extended chat with on the West? It right right before Legace came over and jovialy bumped Vinny from behind. The West player was smaller than Vinny, is all I could tell.

Staal did have three points, including a goal to tie it and an assist on the winner. Winning team usually gets the MVP.

I believe he got 3 points & contributed on late goals, that's the reasoning I saw anyway. There were a couple of other guys you could make a case for, definitely. He did have a "what the hell?" look on his face, lol.
I don't blame him for not being excited about the car, I wouldn't expect a young single guy to be thrilled with what looks like a minivan! I know Dodge is a big sponsor, but give these guys a Viper or something, or forget the vehicle and give them a cheque to the charity of the player's choice.

For sure... but I think they had flashed a graphic that said 5 recent MVPs came from the losing team.
Not as big a tragedy (or not one at all really) as Khabi getting the shaft because the voting had already been done.

Funny you said that Ms S, my wife looked up from her book and said, "Really, they gave the kid a station wagon???"

He's going to give it to his parents which should make him the favorite for a while.

Interesting that the US ratings went up over 40% over last year.
Is the NHL all-star game that much more of a mockery than the NBA all-star game or the Pro Bowl?

NO, I think it was much more enjoyable than any of the those two.

While I agree, I can't call it good. Lesser of 3 evils, maybe.
I tried to watch the AHL All-Star Game last night and the same thing. Please, I beg you. Someone shoot the puck. We know you respect the other players and want to be nice, etc... but SHOOT.
