Played midget for the Buffalo Regals U18 program, where he had 5 goals and 22 points in 47 games. Was selected in the 3rd round, 60th overall, by Brampton in the 2010 OHL Priority Draft.
2010-2011:
Saw solid ice time as a rookie, posting 4 goals and 26 points in 67 games with Brampton.
2011-2012:
Improved from a -4 rating in his rookie season to a +14 rating and saw modest statistical improvement for Brampton with 7 goals and 34 points in 66 games. Finished the year ranked the #71 North American skater by NHL Central Scouting Service. Selected in the 2nd round, 40th overall by the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Scouting Report
Strengths:
Offensively gifted. Soft hands and a big shot on the power play. Reads and jumps into the play well. Above average skater who can play big minutes. Defends well off the rush.
Weaknesses:
Prone to turnovers when he has the puck in his own third. Struggles with positioning once the opposition gains entry to his zone. More of a leaner physically than a hitter.

"Has excellent size and physical tools to go along with some fine offensive skills. Likes to jump into the attack to create odd-man rushes and shows good instincts. Soft hands for giving and receiving passes. Weapon on the PP with a big point shot - gets great torque on 1-timers. Oddly, makes great decisions in puck distribution at offensive end, but his decisions moving the puck in defensive end can be a gong show with lots of bad turnovers. Willing to use big body, but could be more assertive when doing so - he's more of a pin and seal guy, but does win battles along the walls and uses his size and reach well in containment around corners. Reads the play well coming at him and angles men off to the outside while maintaining good gaps. Gets running around in own end and easily confused in coverage down low. Workhorse plays big minutes.
Projection: #5-6 defenseman with some puck skills.
