Will the Lightning Attempt to Sign Smaby for the Playoffs?

Here's an interesting question for you Bolt Prospecteers to try and answer that was asked to me by our web guru Tim: North Dakota's season, one way or another, will be over by late Saturday night. Hopefully, on that night, Smaby and his Fighting Sioux will be playing in the national championship game against the winner of Wisconsin and Maine. When it's over, will the Lightning attempt to sign Smaby as their #7 or #8 defenseman going into the playoffs? Considering the meager ice time Timo Helbling and Doug O'Brien have gotten with the Lightning's recent injuries, I wouldn't be surprised if they do.

It's worth a shot. Smaby

It's worth a shot. Smaby has the size advantage on both O'Brien and Helbling -- about 40 pounds on both of them, and a few inches.

Completely agree.

He should definetely be signed. It would be beneficial for the Bolts to at least have someone with a physical edge as a depth guy for the playoffs in case Sarich were to go down for a couple of games. Edit: IMO, Rogers wouldn't be a bad idea, either... well, as long as he's completely over his ankle injury.

Re: Rogers

Last I talked to Chad about Rogers, he read that Andy is still rehabbing. He thinks he'll be ready for camp and that the last surgery should stabilize the ankle (hopefully) for the rest of his career. He's probably not an option for the playoffs though.
