Ouellet Assigned to Norfolk

Damian Cristodero of the St. Pete Times reports winger Michel Ouellet has been assigned to AHL Norfolk after clearing waivers earlier this week.

Ouellet, a member of the Brad Richards-led 2000 Memorial Cup champ Rimouski Oceanic, was expected to form a bond with his former teammate this time last year when signed as a free agent. The winger did accumulate 17 goals and 36 points last season, but most of that came late in the year after Ouellet was finally healthy and Richards was dealt to Dallas.

If he remains in Norfolk (there is a chance he could be sent back up through re-entry waivers where his salary will be shared between Tampa Bay and the claiming team), Ouellet would seem to form an extremely formidable line with Brandon Bochenski and Wyatt Smith that could send the Ads back to conference-contender status.

As it stands, Norfolk is not over the veteran maximum.
