Strange night. Strange game. The Lightning were very focused in the First Period after not playing their best hockey in their last outing against the Islanders and completely dominated the First Period to build a 2-0 lead. Unfortunately, after doing that, the Islanders got angry/embarrassed and the Lightning got a little complacent en route to the Islanders tying the game at 2-2 and they looked primed to take the lead at any point in that Second Period until Jason Chimera gave a cheap power play to the Lightning on a roughing call. The Lightning to a meat and potatoes power play goal against the run of play and the rest is history. It's pretty impressive really. It reminds you of what some of the really dangerous teams like the Pens and Caps have done year in and year out in the last 5-10 years: if you give them a cheap power play they can steal the game from you and make it a laugher. That's what happened tonight. Very impressive.

The Lightning now have 8 points in this 10-game segment with 3 games to go in the segment. They need 4 of the remaining 6 points to clinch a successful segment and avoid dipping into their reservoir of insurance points.

Slater Koekkoek had a helper and was +1 with 1 shot, 2 hits, and 1 blocked shot in 16:16. Ice time looks good. Blowing a wide open net, not so good.

Gourde had a pair of goals and was +1 with 3 shots and 1 blocked shot. He was also 46% on 13 draws. Showing the bravery to go into the forest in front of the net where the lumberjacks do work.

Mikhail Sergachev had a helper, 2 shots, 1 hit, and 1 blocked shot in 15:19.
