NHL Game Night: 10-6-19 Lightning at Hurricanes

McElhinney steals an undeserved point for the Lightning.

CAR-4 (OT)

Curtis McElhinney allowed 4 goals on 44 shots for the loss. He was the only reason the Lightning didn't completely embarrass themselves.

I'm not going to overblow this because it's the third game of the season with a Lightning lineup that doesn't include Brayden Point, but it underscores the danger of camping with a bottomfeeder like Florida for half a month. Matched up against an actual good team, the Lightning found themselves suddenly swimming in deep and unfamiliar waters. To get outshot 27-2 from the Second Period on in this game is just something these players need to do some soul searching about as they travel tonight. You could make an argument that this team could easily be winless on the season this far and only their raw skill level and goaltending are holding them at a mediocre and dubious .500 record. It's not good enough so far.

Carter Verheaghe was +1 in 12:56 of ice time.
