NHL Game Night: 1-27-20 Lightning at Stars

Lightning a little rusty and a little impatient in OT loss.

TB-2
DAL-3 (OT)

Andrei Vasilevskiy allowed 3 goals on 35 shots for the OT loss. He stared down way too many breakaways in this one.

First Period
NO SCORING

Second Period
13:41 TB Stamkos (19), (Kucherov, Rutta)
17:49 DAL Gurianov (12), (Seguin, Lindell)

Third Period
9:06 DAL Benn (13), (Comeau)
18:34 TB Stamkos (20), (Hedman, Kucherov)

Overtime
2:07 DAL Benn (14), (unassisted)

Vasilevskiy was the game's third star.

The Lightning's puck management was pretty uneven as the Lightning played one of those games where they can sometimes be their worst enemy. Facing a strong performance by Ben Bishop in the opposing nets, the Lightning started to press offensively and that, coupled with turnovers, led them to start leaking a lot of breakaways and other odd man opportunities. Considering it's the first game back from All-Star Break I don't put too much stock into it, but that has been the template for upsetting the Lightning in the postseason. They've got to maintain discipline and good habits even when the chances and the goals aren't flowing.

With one game left in this 10-game segment of the campaign, the Lightning now sit on three insurance points. Five sounds better to me.

Carter Verhaeghe was -1 with 1 shot in 5:56.

Mitchell Stephens was -1 with 1 shot and 1 hit in 8:45, but was also 17% on 6 draws.
