Top-seeded Victoria takes a commanding 3-1 series lead after sweeping the Capitals in Duncan, B.C. Brian Nugent, a Northern Michigan commit, had two goals for Victoria. The Grizzlies can close out the series at home Friday night.

QMJHL
Note: Lightning prospect Mark Barberio finished third in an "expert panel" vote for the league's top defenseman this week, put together by a New Brunswick newspaper ahead of the QMJHL awards being announced in the near future. Barberio had one first place vote out of seven cast, finishing behind likely 2009 first rounder Dmitry Kulikov of Drummondville, and Rimouski's Marc-Andre Bourdon (Flyers 3rd rounder in 2008).

Jung hits 20 wins and Edmonton stays two points ahead of Prince Albert for the East’s eighth seed. The Raiders beat Regina 6-5 at home Wednesday after being down 4-1 and 5-2 in the game. Both have two games remaining, but Prince Albert has one more win than the Oil Kings. Edmonton ends with a weekend home-and-home series with 11th place Red Deer. Prince Albert does the same with 2nd place Saskatoon. Edmonton was outshot 38-34 by Kootenay, who is the East’s 6th seed at the moment. * = WHL has yet to update.

Spokane remains 1 point behind Kelowna for the West’s 3rd seed. Both have 3 games remaining. Kelowna ends with two against Kamloops and Spokane has two against Tri-City before the Rockets and Chiefs square off on Sunday to finish the regular season. Drayson Bowman (Carolina) had a goal and 3 assists for Spokane, who continues to play without three of their top defenseman – including likely 2009 top 10 pick Jared Cowan, who is out for the season.

Evander Kane scored his 46th for Vancouver. Blast from the Past: Former Rick Dudley Lightning acquisition Yogi Svejkovsky is serving as an assistant coach for Don Hay’s Vancouver Giants. Yogi played 29 games with the Lightning in 1999-2000, scoring 5 goals and 5 assists. He played the following year with the Detroit Vipers for 2 games (2-2-4). He was a first round pick of the Capitals in 1996 (17th overall) after scoring 101 points (58 goals) in 70 games for the Tri-City Americans of the WHL. Yogi was one of many to enter and exit the Lightning's revolving door in the early Dudley years.
