Edmonton exploded to a 4-0 first period lead on their way to putting up a snowman against lowly Chilliwack.

Spokane Chiefs 2 @ Tri-City Americans 1 (SO)
G Dustin Tokarski, SPO: Win, 40 saves on 41 shots, 3 for 3 in the shootout, *First Star*

With TC: 28 GP, 14-23-37, +8, 19 PIM

There are big game players and then there’s Dustin Tokarski. Second place (U.S. Division) Spokane went into first place TC’s barn and Tokarski – playing less than 24 hours after stopping 30 of 31 shots in Portland – outdueled fellow Team Canada goaltender Chet Pickard to the tune of a 2-1 shootout win. Tokarski stopped 40 in regulation and overtime before stopping Fadden and two other TC shooters in the shootout to earn First Star honors. Spokane got a goal from Drayson Bowman (Carolina) with their second attempt in the shootout for the win and the extra point. The Chiefs are now eight points behind TC with two games in hand.

This was a game where Mitch Fadden has to make his presence known. The FSN announcers Tuesday night couldn’t stop talking about Fadden’s abilities and how he was TC’s main addition for the stretch run. He must play like a leader to earn a contract from Tampa Bay. He certainly has the talent.

Vancouver Giants 9 @ Red Deer Rebels 3
C James Wright, VAN: 0-0-0, -2, 0 PIM
Season totals: 43 GP, 14-19-33, +15, 22 PIM

Someone had to pay for the Giants’ loss to CHL No.1 Calgary. A game after losing to the Hitmen, Vancouver had 9 on the board before the end of the second period. How Wright ended up a minus-2 when his team scored 9 goals is a small mystery.
