N.A. Juniors Game Night: 10/4

Luca Cunti continues his point streak ... Ward notches his first ... Full moon in Seattle.

BCHL

Victoria Grizzlies 5 @ Alberni Valley Bulldogs 3
W Justin Courtnall, VIC: 1-0-1, 0 PIM

Courtnall’s fourth goal of the year came on the power play.

QMJHL

Baie-Comeau Drakkar 4 @ Rimouski Oceanic 1
W/C Luca Cunti, RIM: 0-1-1, E, 0 PIM, 1 SOG

Cunti, who is officially listed as a left winger now by Rimouski, has registered at least a point in all five games in which he's played this year. He leads the Memorial Cup hosts in scoring with six points.

Lewiston MAINEiacs 2 @ Cape Breton Screaming Eagles 6
D Michael Ward, LEW: 1-0-1, -1, 0 PIM, 2 SOG

Ward’s first goal of the year came on the power play and tied the game at two midway through the second period. Lewiston was outscored 11-2 by Cape Breton in their two-game set this weekend.

WHL

Spokane Chiefs 2 @ Seattle Thunderbirds 3 (SO)
G Dustin Tokarski, SPO: SOL, 25 saves on 27 shots

Previously winless Seattle opened their home schedule with an upset of division leading Spokane. Tokarski stopped the first three shooters in the shootout, but Seattle’s Jacob DeSerres (Flyers) did one better, going four for four. DeSerres, who made 30 saves in regulation, was named First Star. Apparently there was a fan at the game who dropped his drawers and provided a "full moon" to half of the arena - and wasn't asked to leave. You stay classy, Seattle.

Chilliwack Bruins 3 @ Prince George Cougars 4 (SO)
C/W Dana Tyrell, PG: 0-1-1, E, 2 PIM (unsportsmanlike conduct)

Tyrell did not participate in the shootout.

Portland Winter Hawks 1 @ Vancouver Giants 7
C James Wright, VAN: 0-0-0, +1, 2 PIM (tripping)

Despite the Giants putting up seven goals, Wright did not register a point. He had earned a point in five of six games prior to Saturday night. Vancouver has scored seven or more goals in three of their seven games.

Of Note: Lethbridge defeated Kelowna 7-3 Saturday night. Normally this would be a match-up of Mitch Fadden (LET) vs. Torrie Jung (KEL), but Fadden remains in Admirals (AHL) camp and Jung remains team-less. No word of a Jung trade or waiver move has been announced. Jung’s replacement, Kris Lazaruk, is 3-4-0-0 on the year with a GAA of 3.73 (34th in the league) and a save percentage of .853 (40th) for the Western Division preseason favorite. Currently the Rockets, who are without top prospect Luke Schenn, sit in last in the division. Schenn is expected to sign with the Leafs this week. Jung has been removed from the Rocket's official roster, so reinstatement seems unlikely.

Tokarski and the Full Moon

I was at the game where Dustin Tokarski was facing the Seattle Thunderbirds. I would say Dustin played a very good game and was unusually composed for a young goaltender throughout this game. He also played the angles well. As for the full moon, yes, this is also true. The man, who was wearing a Vancouver Canucks jersey, was standing in one of the openings to the concourse at center ice behind the players benches. He began dancing to the music between play and to be funny he provided the full moon. At the next stoppage of play he started dancing like a stripper and removed his shirt. A fan alerted a police officer on the other side of the ice and he radioed to another officer on the other side of the ice. Unfortunately, the game was over by the time officials could get to him. I believe they caught up with him after the game as there were officers at the top. Back to the real topic, I think Spokane is very lucky to have Tokarski as he really was sharp throughout the game. DeSerres was simply very good in the shootout stopping all shots that came his way. As I did throughout the end of last season, I will continue to provide everyone with information on Tampa Bay prospects as they come to Seattle.

Thanks

Thanks, Ffan23. It's always appreciated.
