Juniors Game Night: 12-6-17

Quebec Major Junior Hockey League

Halifax Mooseheads 2 @ Shawinigan Cataractes 3 (SO)

C/W Otto Somppi, HAL: 0-1-1, +1, 0 PIM, 1 SOG, 14/19 FO
Season Totals: 22 GP, 11-19-30, +24, 14 PIM
’16-’17 Totals: 60 GP, 17-24-41, -7, 28 PIM

After the Cataractes got out to a two-goal lead, Sompii helped trigger the Halifax rally assisting on a shorthanded goal by Filip Zadina (2018 draft eligible). About 90 seconds later, Islander 6th round pick Arnaud Durandeau knotted the game at deuces. Zadina, a consensus Top 10 projected pick in the 2018 NHL draft, was named to Team Canada’s World Juniors camp earlier in the day. However, neither Zadina nor Somppi could solve Shawinigan netminder Mikhail Denisov in the shootout before Jan Drozg (PIT, 2017 5th round pick) potted the shootout game-winner for the Cataractes. Somppi was once again lights out in the faceoff circle, winning 74% of his draws.

Ontario Hockey League
