First Round - 27th Overall: LW Nolan Foote

Name: Nolan Foote
Position: Left Wing
Height: 6'4"
Weight: 195 lbs.
Shoots: Left
Club: Kelowna (WHL)

The Lightning decided to keep their 2019 first rounder in the family by selecting left winger Nolan Foote, brother of 2017 first rounder Cal Foote. A power winger by trade, Foote's calling cards are his strength, blistering shot, and a mature 200 foot game that is advanced for most prospects his age. Foote's 36 goals and 63 points in 66 games were less than a point a game, which is a bit of a concern, but it's important to note that production came even as he played part of the campaign with a broken wrist. A high-floor player who is a safe pick that is likely to make the NHL due to his bloodlines and well-rounded game, Foote has drawn comparisons to NHL'er Charlie Coyle. The lone knock on Foote? He's been flagged for a lack of first step acceleration that some in the scouting community charge to a flaw in his skating mechanics, whereas others feel he just may not have always been engaged this past season and may have been a bit bored in his third season of junior hockey. We suspect the truth lies somewhere in between. Fortunately, both issues are correctable, to a degree, and Foote's style of play has come in demand for the Lightning as they come to grips with the fact the postseason may require heavier players capable of fighting through playoff clutching and grabbing.

- Excellent size and strength capable of driving hard to the next
- Extremely heavy, overpowering shot
- Mature positionally with a good 200 foot game
- Shows toughness/high pain threshold

- First step acceleration likely needs further development
- Accused of being bored at times with the junior hockey level

- Solid two-way third line winger capable of spotting on a scoring line as a complementary winger
