QMJHL Playoffs – Conference Semi-Finals

Rimouski Oceanic 0 @ Moncton Wildcats 3
Best of 7 series tied 1-1
[i]W/C Luca Cunti, RIM: 0-0-0, -1, 2 PIM, 0 SOG
Playoff totals: 6 GP, 2-3-5, +3, 6 PIM
Season totals: 57 GP, 20-25-45, +10, 32 PIM
D Mark Barberio, MCT: 0-0-0, E, 0 PIM, 2 SOG
Playoff totals: 7 GP, 0-4-4, +6, 4 PIM
Season totals: 66 GP, 15-30-45, +9, 42 PIM

Cunti had his five game point streak snapped. Barberio hasn’t hit the scoresheet since his four assist playoff opener vs. PEI. He is playing more of a defensive role in the playoffs, but is still getting plenty of power play time. He sets up on the right point in the umbrella and looks to use his one-timer. He looked hesitant to pinch in at times on the power play when the weak side was wide-open, but Moncton was nursing a 2-0 lead at the time. Reminder: Most Q games are available to watch free online via the lhjmq.ca web site. Barberio stopped Cunti on a one-on-one move early in the third when Cunti was attempting to stickhandle through the defense. Game 3 is Tuesday.

WHL Playoffs – Conference Semi-Finals

Kelowna Rockets 2 @ Tri-City Americans 3
Tri-City leads Best of 7 series 2-0
C Mitch Fadden, TC: 0-2-2, +1, 0 PIM, *Third Star*
Playoff totals: 7 GP, 2-11-13, +5, 2 PIM
Season totals: 63 GP, 37-39-76, +24, 49 PIM

This is virtually a re-print from Friday: TC captain Taylor Procyshen (undrafted) scored with under [three] minutes to go to give the Americans the win. Fadden had two assists and a Third Star award … for the second straight night. He has a five game MULTI-point streak going, and a six game streak overall. He’s been named a game star in 5 of TC’s 7 games and is one point behind Tyler Ennis for the WHL playoff scoring lead. TC overcame a 2-0 deficit with 3 third period goals. Game 3 is Tuesday in Kelowna.

Spokane Chiefs 1 @ Vancouver Giants 4
Vancouver leads Best of 7 series 2-0
G Dustin Tokarski, SPO: Loss, 30 saves on 34 shots
Playoff totals: 7 GP, 4-3-0, 2.15 GAA, .934 sv%
Season totals: 54 GP, 34-18-0-2, 1.97 GAA, .937 sv%, 7 shutouts
C James Wright, VAN: 0-1-1, E, 0 PIM, *Third Star*
Playoff totals: 6 GP, 1-4-5, +4, 4 PIM
Season totals: 71 GP, 21-26-47, +26, 54 PIM

High powered Vancouver had leads of 2-0 and 4-0 after the first two periods and coasted to a Game 2 victory and what looks to be a strong lead in the series. While Spokane’s defensive effort is admirable as always, the team is having a difficult time generating shots. For the second straight game there was a 15-plus shot advantage for the Giants. Wright has really elevated his offensive game in the playoffs, despite centering a checking line. Tokarksi sees his GAA rise above 2 for the first time since early last fall. Game 3 is Tuesday in Spokane.
