Back-to-back games against the best team in the league was a tall order for the surging K-Wings, and a chance to measure themselves against a team they will likely have to go through for a deep run in the Kelly Cup playoffs. Big props to the red hot Nic Riopel, who allowed just one Walleye goal on 31 shots Friday night, and enabled Kalamazoo to hold serve this weekend after Toledo put up 6 on the scoreboard Saturday night against Joel Martin. Riopel, winner of 11 in his last 12 starts, earned 2nd Star honors for his performance Friday. The K-Wings remain 3 points behind Quad Cities in the Central Division standings, looking to avoid a 1st round meeting against these Walleye. Speaking of Quad Cities, Kalamazoo travels to the Wireless Center in Moline, IL Wednesday for a big road game against the Mallards, before a home-and-home Friday and Saturday nights against the lowly Indy Fuel.
