D Mark Barberio, MCT: 0-0-0, +1, 2 PIM, 1 SOG

Moncton’s home opener was nearly a loss, but the Wildcats tied the game late in the third and managed a win in the shootout. They scored on both their shootout opportunities.

LW Matais Sointu, OTT: 0-1-1,+1, 0 PIM
RW Kyle DeCoste, SSM: 0-0-0, -2, 0 PIM

Matias Sointu had an assist in his North American debut, but fellow Lightning prospect Kyle DeCoste got a win when his Greyhounds teammate, rookie Nick Cousins, scored in overtime. Sointu missed most of last season while injured in Finland.

Oshawa Generals 5 @ Sarnia Sting 4 (OT)
G Michael Zador, OSH: Win, 34 saves on 30 shots

Zador made his season debut after returning from Lightning camp, and was slow to start giving up two goals in the first period. He settled down from there and managed to help the Generals to an overtime win. Sarnia, Steven Stamkos’ alma mater, put up 14 shots on Zador in both the first and third periods. Zador stopped 24 of those.

Note: During the Lightning radio broadcast tonight, Lightning associate coach Wes Walz stated Carter Ashton and Richard Panik would return to their junior teams this weekend.
