Alexeev Claims He Grew An Inch

Nikita Alexeev claims he grew an inch and gained 10 pounds of muscle when he was in Russia in a Damian Cristodero article in the Times. He also claims he will "light it up" and "dominate every year." In related news, Alexeev also has some prime land in the Everglades he's looking to sell. The former 2000 1st round draft pick had 6 goals and 10 points in 40 games last season for Omsk in the Russian Superleague. Rhetorical question: if he didn't "light it up" in Russia how likely is it he will "dominate" now in the NHL? Not very. But I'm receptive to being surprised.

Lets hope he can back it up

Heck Ovechkin's best season in the Russian Superleague was only 27 points...maybe Nikita finally learned you hafta actually compete to be competitive on the ice Then again...maybe not... edit: spelling

Hope 1 inch = 10 goals

Noting that Nikita is NOT my preference for Modin's replacement, can we swap the Russians for a bit? The Afanasenkov experiment should be concluded post haste. I don't know how many wristers into the crest or backhanders so wide of the post they rattle the far glass it will take for everyone else to come to the realization that Dmitry is not a finisher. He's a fine family man and speedy backchecker. Both admirable qualities. But get him off the scoring lines and find a power forward for Richie and Marty before somebody kills 'em. This is only half jest. Time and again the remaining components of the MRS line find each other in traffic, hesitate along the halfboard, and feed a trailing Affy across the slot for a home run. Swing-and-a miss. Strike two. Alexeev and Henrich appear to be the only PF candidates in camp. Craig may see spot duty in preseason games but his speed is a detriment to placement on that line. Perhaps the waiver draft might shake someone loose because if not, it's time to move assets.
