North American Juniors Game Night: 10/15/10

Many junior prospects in action Friday night. Connolly scores his 7th, Zador picks up another win while Panik, Schemitsch and Mullin add helpers.

North American Juniors Game Night: 10/14/10

OHL

Sault Ste Marie Greyhounds 1 @ Brampton Battalion 5
D Brock Beukeboom, SSM: 0-0-0, -1, 18 PIM (Checking-from-behind [4], fighting vs. Barclay Goodrow, checking-from-behind [4], fighting vs. Sean Jones)
Season Totals: 7 GP, 0-0-0, -2, 34 PIM

The Soo lost their sixth game in a row, being outshot by Brampton 41-22 in the process. Beukeboom had his third and fourth fights of the year. You certainly like to see passion from the captain, but two double minors for checking-from-behind is over the line. Beukeboom didn’t fare too well in his first fight (click for hockeyfights.com video) and his second wasn’t much of a contest before the linesmen came in.

Owen Sound Attack 6 @ Barrie Colts 2
D Geoffrey Schemitsch, OS: 0-0-0, +2, 2 PIM (holding)
Season Totals: 7 GP, 1-4-5, +5, 2 PIM

Schemitsch hasn’t had a point in a few games, but the team is winning and is tied with Kitchener for the Mid-West Division lead at 6-1.

North American Juniors Game Night: 10/13/10

BCHL

Quesnel Millionaires 2 @ Penticton Vees 6
C Brendan O’Donnell, PEN: 0-1-1, 2 PIM (holding)
Season Totals: 15 GP, 6-4-10, 8 PIM

O’Donnell earned a power play assist in the Vees’ route of Quesnel.

OHL

Niagara IceDogs 5 @ Belleville Bulls 4
C Richard Panik, BEL: 2-1-3, -1, 2 PIM (Tripping), *Second Star*
Season Totals: 8 GP, 7-6-13, +2, 13 PIM

Panik had three points for the second consecutive game, but the Bulls gave up two late goals to see a win slip away. Panik is tied for fourth in the OHL in points with 13, three behind leaders Greg McKegg (Erie, Maple Leafs), Ryan Strome (Niagara, 2011), and Ryan Murphy (Kitchener, 2011). Panik is also tied for fourth in goals, one behind leaders Christian Thomas (Oshawa, Rangers), Alex Aleardi (Plymouth, undrafted), and McKegg.

North American Juniors Game Night: 10/12/10

BCHL

Penticton Vees 2 @ Westside Warriors 1 (OT)
C Brendan O’Donnell, PEN: 0-0-0, 0 PIM
Season Totals: 12 GP, 5-3-8, 6 PIM

O’Donnell was scoreless coming off a 2-goal game, but he and the Vees will take the road victory.

WHL

Kootenay Ice 2 @ Regina Pats 0
RW Carter Ashton, REG: 0-0-0, -1, 0 PIM
Season Totals: 7 GP, 2-1-3, -3, 21 PIM

Regina is a league-worst 1-6-1-0 so far this year, and for a team with Jordan Weal and Ashton, that shouldn’t be happening. They managed only 14 shots on goal – at home – on Tuesday. Then again, this was a team that had Jordan Eberle last year and greatly faltered. After scoring 30 two years ago, Ashton fell to 24 goals last year, and with only 2 after 7 games, he can’t be happy with his (or the team’s) production so far, especially considering he had such a good Lightning camp and exhibition season.

North American Juniors Game Night: 10/11/10

OHL

Ottawa 67’s 4 @ Oshawa Generals 3
G Michael Zador, OSH: Loss, 22 saves on 26
Season Totals: 4-1-0-0, 3.61 GAA, .894 sv%

Zador got a confidence boost when Coach/GM Chris DePiero put him right back in net after Zador was pulled in his previous game. Zador wasn’t great, however, and suffered his first (technically) loss of the year against the 67’s despite the Gens outshooting Ottawa 36-26. This is a crucial time for Zador, who struggled mightily with consistency last season. If he can right this quickly, it could go a long way to him getting a contract this spring. If he continues to ride the roller coaster, the uphill climb to a contract gets steeper.

WHL

Prince George Cougars 7 @ Edmonton Oil Kings 8
RW Brett Connolly, PG: 2-0-2, +1, 0 PIM
Season Totals: 8 GP, 6-5-11, -1, 2 PIM

Connolly, who has at least a point in all 8 games this year, scored the game’s first 2 goals, but the Cougars would later blow a 6-3 third period lead in 6 minutes and eventually have to tie the game to send it to overtime. The Oil Kings won it in the extra session.
