North American Juniors Game Night: 10/12/10

Penticton Vees 2 @ Westside Warriors 1 (OT)
C Brendan O’Donnell, PEN: 0-0-0, 0 PIM

WHL
Kootenay Ice 2 @ Regina Pats 0
RW Carter Ashton, REG: 0-0-0, -1, 0 PIM
Season Totals: 7 GP, 2-1-3, -3, 21 PIM
Regina is a league-worst 1-6-1-0 so far this year, and for a team with Jordan Weal and Ashton, that shouldn’t be happening. They managed only 14 shots on goal – at home – on Tuesday. Then again, this was a team that had Jordan Eberle last year and greatly faltered. After scoring 30 two years ago, Ashton fell to 24 goals last year, and with only 2 after 7 games, he can’t be happy with his (or the team’s) production so far, especially considering he had such a good Lightning camp and exhibition season.

OHL
Ottawa 67’s 4 @ Oshawa Generals 3
G Michael Zador, OSH: Loss, 22 saves on 26
Season Totals: 4-1-0-0, 3.61 GAA, .894 sv%
Zador got a confidence boost when Coach/GM Chris DePiero put him right back in net after Zador was pulled in his previous game. Zador wasn’t great, however, and suffered his first (technically) loss of the year against the 67’s despite the Gens outshooting Ottawa 36-26. This is a crucial time for Zador, who struggled mightily with consistency last season. If he can right this quickly, it could go a long way to him getting a contract this spring. If he continues to ride the roller coaster, the uphill climb to a contract gets steeper.
WHL
Prince George Cougars 7 @ Edmonton Oil Kings 8
RW Brett Connolly, PG: 2-0-2, +1, 0 PIM
Season Totals: 8 GP, 6-5-11, -1, 2 PIM
Connolly, who has at least a point in all 8 games this year, scored the game’s first 2 goals, but the Cougars would later blow a 6-3 third period lead in 6 minutes and eventually have to tie the game to send it to overtime. The Oil Kings won it in the extra session.
