Adam York was named the game's 1st Star, stopping 27 shots en route to an Everblades victory over the division-leading Solar Bears. Lightning camper Mike Aviani, recently returned from a 2-game stint with AHL Charlotte, scored the Blades second goal assisted by Bolt prospect Artem Sergeev. Florida and Orlando resume what seems to be a 40-game opening season series Saturday night in Estero.
In other news, on Monday the AHL transaction wire had Bolt prospect forward Danick Gauthier as being reassigned from AHL Syracuse to ECHL Florida. But on Friday the Wichita Thunder announced that the Tampa Bay Lightning reassigned Gauthier from Syracuse to the Thunder, joining fellow Bolt prospect blueliner Dan Milan. The Thunder host the Missouri Mavericks Saturday night before traveling to Tulsa to take on the Oilers Sunday afternoon.

Adam York stopped 26 goals as the Everblades mounted a spirited third period comeback to force overtime before Florida forward Adam Brace notched the short-handed OT GW'er. It was York's first win of the season. Artem Sergeev now has a point streak after Evan Bloodoff picked up a rebound from Sergeev's shot and buried the game-tying goal in the third. Kristoff Kontos, son of former Bolt Chris Kontos, opened the scoring for Orlando in the second period. Kontos, 20, is playing in his first professional season after signing a contract with the Solar Bears earlier this month. He was born 14 months after his father was forever etched in Lightning lore by scoring 4 goals in the Bolt's first ever NHL game as a franchise on Oct 7, 1992. It says quite a bit about a hockey organization that failed to mention that Kristoff's father even played for the NHL team just 1.5 hours down the interstate in the press release about signing Kontos, choosing instead to highlight his playing time with the LA Kings and Wayne Gretzy. Draw your own conclusions.

Everblade netminder Allen York and his Stingray counterpart Adam Morrison put on a goalie clinic Saturday night as each allowed just one goal each in regulation and overtime before going 8 rounds deep in the shootout before York surrendered the game winner. York stopped 17 shots in his season debut, but took the tough luck shootout loss. The Blades picked up 3 of 4 points in their opening two-game weekend series with South Carolina, and play their next 5 games against Orlando starting with a three-in-three on October 24 in Estero.

Florida opened their season by hanging on for a 4-3 win over visiting South Carolina on Friday. The Stingrays made things interesting when they cut the Everblades lead to one with just over three minutes remaining, but Daniel Altshuller (25 saves on 28 shots) stood tall in net for Florida.
