AHL Game Night: 3-16-19 Devils at Crunch

Volkov and company expand Crunch's North Division lead.

BNG-1
SYR-4

Martin Ouellette allowed just 1 goal on 18 shots for the victory.

First Period
4:02 SYR Andreoff (24), (Barre-Boulet, Verhaeghe)(PP)

Second Period
1:59 SYR Volkov (15), (Dumont, Tammela)
11:42 SYR Verhaeghe (28), (Stephens, Labrie)
19:24 BNG Schmelzer (10), (Saracino, Seney)(PP)

Third Period
19:02 SYR Volkov (16), (Andreoff, Thomas)(EN)

Carter Verhaeghe, Alexander Volkov, and Ouellette were the game's three stars. Volkov made a strong push late in the season last year to seal a 20-goal campaign and he looks to be following the same roadmap this season. He now had 4 goals in his last 5 games to ease up to 16 goals for the season.

Syracuse's win, coupled with Rochester's loss to Charlotte, pushes the Crunch up to a 3 point advantage in the race for the North Division crown. Now the schedule gets a little spicy with a short turnaround for a Tuesday/Wednesday back-to-back against the league-leading Checkers. Glass half empty man says, "Oh my goodness, if the Crunch drop both games they open the door for Rochester to take back the division lead!" Glass half full man says, "Sweep the set and the Crunch will have the best rest record in the entire league." The stakes are high this coming week.

AHL Game Night: 3-6-19 Crunch at Comets

Crunch defeat rivals to take lead in North Division.

SYR-5
UTI-3

Eddie Pasquale allowed 3 goals on 33 shots for the victory. Syracuse's goaltending situation took on a soap opera-like tack today with the sudden demotion of prospect Connor Ingram to the Coast as an "internal matter." Credit Pasquale's professionalism in blocking out the noise to get the W in a key game tonight.

First Period
3:30 SYR Dumont (8), (Andreoff, Thomas)(SH)
9:34 SYR Colton (11), (unassisted)
9:48 SYR Verhaeghe (26), (unassisted)

AHL Game Night: 3-3-19 Crunch at Americans

Syracuse strikes back to even up weekend series with Rochester.

SYR-4
ROC-1

Martin Ouellette allowed 1 goal on 37 shots for the victory. There's real intrigue in net in Syracuse where speculation has ranged from Connor Ingram possibly nursing an injury, living in Ben Groulx's Chateau au Bow Wow, or the Crunch showcasing Eddie Pasquale for a potential trade for a veteran D-man so the Lightning can recall Jan Rutta full time. With the AHL trade deadline coming Monday, at least one of those scenarios will be eliminated soon.

First Period
7:24 SYR Andreoff (22), (Verhaeghe, Conacher)(PP)

Second Priod
3:57 ROC Nylander (10), (Tennyson, Leier)
6:38 SYR Barre-Boulet (27), (Verhaeghe, Conacher)(PP)

Ouellette and Carter Verhaeghe were the game's first and second stars.

Syracuse and Rochester now sit tied atop the North Division with Syracuse holding a game in hand and a two game lead in the ROW tiebreaker.

Ingram, Andy Andreoff, and Carter Verhaeghe were the game's three stars.

Pasquale left the game with a health issue in the First Period. He did remain dressed in the tunnel after leaving, which is hopefully indicative of his removal from the game being more precautionary than serious.
