The Admirals give up an extra point in overtime as they try to arrest the Hershey-induced free fall.

If you told me that at the end of 2009 Martins Karsums and Matt Lashoff would only have 6 goals between them, I would've checked you for fever. As disappointing as their first halves have been, though, they are starting to show signs of life.

Latvia Names Martins Karsums to 2010 Olympic Team

NORFOLK, Va. – Norfolk Admirals forward and Lightning prospect Martins Karsums has been named to Team Latvia for the 2010 Winter Olympics.

Karsums, a 5-foot-9, 200-pound forward from Riga, Latvia, has appeared in 30 games for the Admirals this season and has three goals and 11 points with an even plus/minus rating. Karsums has been heating up of late and shows two goals and six points in his last five games with Norfolk.

AHL Game Night: 12-19-09 Senators at Admirals

Left a point on the ice.

BNG-5
NOR-4

Riku Helenius allowed 5 goals on 23 shots for the loss. It seems to me, at least in the short term, it may be time to make Dustin Tokarski the number one and quit rotating the netminders. Helenius is clearly on a cold streak.

Ty Wishart and Martins Karsums were named the game's second and third stars. Wishart's 1 goal and 2 assist night was his first multi-point effort of the season and he now has 6 points in his last 6 games. He's a guy who was a big scorer from the backline in junior. Is his offensive ability finally starting to peek through? Karsums has exploded with 5 points in the two games against the Sens this weekend. He had just 6 points all season prior to last night's win.

Matt Lashoff is now -16 in 26 games after a -2 night tonight. Oof.

Norfolk is combining good defense, good goaltending, and home ice advantage to win some key divisional games.

Juraj Simek, Tokarski, and Adam Hall were the game's three stars.

I still can't believe Drew Bannister is still playing hockey.

In another example of Norfolk's exciting forward depth, Martins Karsums stepped up with a multi-point night tonight after only having 6 points through 27 games entering the night. You just knew a veteran with his speed and his track record of scoring at the AHL level was going to eventually start finding the scoresheet.
