Oshawa Sends Zador to Owen Sound
Submitted by chad on December 15, 2010 - 16:31
The Oshawa Generals have announced they've dealt Lightning prospect goaltender Michael Zador to the Owen Sound Attack for a fifth round pick in 2012 and a fifth round pick in 2013. The former OHL first rounder and fifth round pick of the Lightning in 2009 began the year as the Gens' starting goalie, but after a few weeks was relegated to back-up duty. Within the last two weeks he suddenly missed a game due to an illness and the Gens traded for veteran OHL goaltender Peter Di Salvo. With Di Salvo and Kevin Bailie manning the nets for Oshawa, Zador was no where to be seen and many speculated he'd be traded.
Zador will now join fellow Lightning prospect Geoffrey Schemitsch in Owen Sound. Goaltenders Scott Stajcer (Rangers draft pick) and Jordan Binnington (2011 draft) have been splitting duties in Owen Sound, with Binnington earning slightly more games (20-14). Stajcer is facing surgery for a lower body injury and a back-up was needed.
Zador is currently 10-3-2, but with a pedestrian 3.36 goals against average and .879 save percentage.

This was a huge win for the Gens against the OHL’s top team. Mississauga is eight points better than anyone else in the league. Peter DiSalvo made his debut in net for Oshawa and stopped 28 of 30 shots. The Lightning confirmed to BoltProspects Zador is out sick, though with the Gens’ acquisition of DiSalvo this week, combined with the fact Zador lost his number one spot to teammate Kevin Bailie earlier, it appears Zador’s days in Oshawa are numbered.

North American Juniors Game Night: 12/5/10

QMJHL
Gatineau Olympiques 2 @ Acadie-Bathurst Titan 8
D Adam Janosik, GAT: 0-0-0, -4, 0 PIM, 0 SOG, 0 Hits
Season Totals: 31 GP, 4-10-14, +4, 18 PIM
Janosik’s plus-8 rating for the season was cut in half in one bad night vs. the Titan. Gatineau is third in the TELUS West Division with 42 points, eight behind Charles Landry and Montreal for first.
Montreal Juniors 5 @ Lewiston MAINEiacs 3
D Charles Landry, MTL: 0-2-2, +1, 0 PIM, 1 SOG, 1 Hit
Season Totals: 21 GP, 5-15-20, +11, 6 PIM
Landry has eight points in his last three games and has registered at least a point in seven of his last eight games. With his two points Sunday, he is quickly approaching point-per-game status. Although his strong play didn’t show on the scoresheet for the Lightning in Traverse City, Steve Yzerman and company saw enough in the undrafted defenseman to sign him to an entry level contract. He had a slow start to the season, but has come on very strong since missing a few games due to an injury. The Lightning may have a legitimate prospect here.
OHL
Owen Sound Attack 7 @ Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds 4
D Geoffrey Schemitsch, OS: 0-0-0, +4, 2 PIM (interference)
Season totals: 21 GP, 1-11-12, +15, 6 PIM
D Brock Beukeboom, SSM: 0-0-0, -1, 0 PIM
Season Totals: 26 GP, 0-4-4, -13, 42 PIM
After being down 2-1 to start the third period, the Attack exploded for three goals in each of the final frames to beat the Soo. Beukeboom’s minus-1 rating was tied for second best on the team Sunday. Schemitsch’s plus-4 was second on the Attack.
Mississauga St. Michael’s Majors 5 @ Guelph Storm 6
C/W Richard Panik, GUE: 0-1-1, +1, 2 PIM (high sticking)
With Guelph: 2 GP, 0-3-3, +1, 2 PIM
With Belleville: 27 GP, 14-17-31, -1, 31 PIM
Season totals: 29 GP, 14-20-34, E, 33 PIM
This was a huge win for Guelph against the league’s top team. The Majors have only lost three games all season.
Windsor Spitfires 6 @ Oshawa Generals 3
G Michael Zador, OSH: Did not play.
Season Totals: 18 GP, 10-3-1-1, 3.36 GAA, .879 sv%, 1 SO
