(W1) London Knights 5 @ (W5) Saginaw Spirit 5
Western Conference Semifinals – London wins best of 7 series 4-2

C Vladislav Namestnikov , LDN: 0-2-2, +1, 0 PIM

Season Totals: 63 GP, 22-49-71, +15, 50 PIM

London closed out their conference semifinal series against Saginaw with a 5-3 road win. London is likely breathing a sigh of relief as the series was much closer than the 4-2 final game tally. London was down two games to one heading back to Michigan and got a big road win. Then Namestnikov made a strong individual effort in overtime of Game 5 to score the game winner and give London a pivotal win. Namestnikov has four points in his last two games after taking some criticism from the London fanbase for failing to make his mark early in the series. The Knights will await the winner of the Kitchener-Plymouth series. Plymouth leads 3-2 after shutting out the Rangers on Saturday.

Season Totals (with Green Bay): 9 GP, 7-2-0, 2.27 GAA, .918 sv%, 2 SO

After handling nearly all the goaltending duties from the time he was acquired from Green Bay to leading the Storm to securing a playoff spot, Wilcox got the night off. Tri-City has one more game before the playoffs begin and can’t move up in the standings.

OHL

(W5) Saginaw Spirit 1 @ (W1) London Knights 2 (OT)
Western Conference Semifinals – London leads best of 7 series 3-2

C Vladislav Namestnikov , LDN: 1-1-2, +2, 2 PIM (roughing)
Playoff Totals: 9 GP, 3-4-7, +4, 8 PIM
Season Totals: 63 GP, 22-49-71, +15, 50 PIM

Huge. Lightning prospect Vladislav Namestnikov (pictured) scored at 4:58 of the first overtime to give the Knights a 2-1 Game 5 win and a 3-2 series lead over Saginaw. The story for much of the game was Saginaw goaltender Jake Paterson, who is expected to go in the second round of this summer’s draft. Paterson stopped 46 shots on Friday – many of them in spectacular fashion. Lightning camper Seth Griffith had a helper and a tip-in goal for London, and defenseman Olli Maatta, who could go around the midway point of the first round this summer, had the primary assist on Namestnikov’s game winner. Game 6 is Saturday in Saginaw.

Sioux City Musketeers 3 @ Tri-City Storm 2 (OT)

G Adam Wilcox, TC: OT Loss, 31 saves on 34 shots, *First Star*
Season Totals (with Tri-City): 34 GP, 16-17-1-1, 2.91 GAA, .916 sv%, 1 SO
Season Totals (with Green Bay): 9 GP, 7-2-0, 2.27 GAA, .918 sv%, 2 SO

Though there’s no “X” next to the team on the USHL standings page, the Storm appear to have clinched a playoff spot by picking up a point Saturday night against Sioux City. Des Moines lost in a shootout and are five points behind Tri-City with two games to play. Wilcox was named first star for the 300th time in the last month it seems, and has backstopped his “new” team from the bottom of the standings into the playoffs. At least one USHL writer has pegged Wilcox (pictured) for goaltender of the year and says he should get MVP consideration. Wilcox is capable of stealing a short series in the playoffs if he gets some offensive help.

QMJHL

(13) Baie-Comeau Drakkar 2 @ (1) Saint John Sea Dogs 10
Quarterfinals – Saint John leads best of 7 series 2-0

C Danick Gauthier, SNB: 1-0-1, +1, 4 PIM (unsportsmanlike conduct, slashing), 4 SOG, 3 Hits
Playoff Totals: 6 GP, 7-2-9, +6, 6 PIM
Season Totals: 67 GP, 47-39-86, +46, 67 PIM

Not satisfied with their nine goals in Game 1, the Sea Dogs put up 10 in Game 2 to take a 2-0 series lead over the Drakkar. Gauthier had his seventh goal of the playoffs and was 14/20 on faceoffs. Saint John has outscored their opponents 53-13 in their sixth games. That’s just under nine goals a game. And that’s just silly. Game 3 is Tuesday in at Baie-Comeau.

Lightning prospect Danick Gauthier scored his sixth of the playoffs in the win and led the team with five hits. Minnesota prospect Zack Phillips had two goals and two assists for the Sea Dogs. Wilcox stopped 37 shots to help the Storm get two points in South Dakota. With Des Moines losing five of their last six games, Tri-City sits six points up on the Bucs with Des Moines having five games left and Tri-City four. The Storm are three points behind Sioux City for fifth in the East. The top six teams in each conference make the playoffs.

The game was tied at two entering the third period before the IceDogs exploded for three goals in about nine minutes. Islanders first rounder (2011) Ryan Strome had two of the three third period goals for Niagara. Former Lightning prospect Brock Beukeboom was scoreless for the IceDogs. Current Lightning prospect Geoffrey Schemitsch had a helper, his third of the series. Game 6 is Sunday in Oshawa.
