Hajek scored the lone Pats goal, a power play marker to open the scoring in the 1st period. It was Hajek’s 10th goal of the season and his 30th point in less than 40 games. Hajek is now 2-3-5 in six games since being traded to Regina and is really looking like that blueliner Lightning Director of Amateur Scouting Al Murray touted when Tampa Bay traded Anthony DeAngelo to Arizona at the 2016 NHL Draft for the 2nd round pick. It’s been quite the breakout year for the Czech defenseman. Former Blues prospect and now Flames free agent signee Glenn Gawdin led the way for the victorious Broncos scoring twice for Swift Current, his 38th and 39th of the season, including the game-winning power play goal in the 3rd period. Speaking of breakout seasons, Gawdin sits either #3, #4, or #5 in the WHL in points, goals, assists, power play goals, and power assists, and clocks in #2 in the WHL in plus-minus at +41.

Katchouk and Raddysh were instrumental in the Soo gaining a 4-0 early lead. Katchouk opened the scoring just 2:45 into the game, and then Raddysh scored his 20th of the season about 1:45 later. Early in the 2nd, Raddysh and linemate Morgan Frost (PHI, 2017 1st round pick) earned helpers on Jack Kopacka’s (ANA, 2016 4th round pickd) goal, and Katchouk netted his 2nd of the game and 33rd of the season on the power play to give the Soo the 4-0 lead.

But the Spitfires would battle back behind the play of Jake Smith (undrafted) and Luke Kutkevicius (undrafted), as Windsor outscored the Soo 4-2 in the second half of the game. Tim Gettinger (NYR, 2016 5th round pick) scored twice for the Greyhounds in the 3rd, including the empty netter with one second left as the Spitfires were pressing for the equalizer. Raise your hand if back in August you predicted Oleg Sosunov would break 20 points on a loaded Moose Jaw squad, be an everyday player, and be among the league leaders in plus/minus rating? And then what if I told you there’s a dang good chance he scores 30 points? Sosunov assisted on Howden’s game opening goal less than two minutes in, and then assisted on Brayden Burke’s (undrafted) game-winning goal in the 3rd. The mojo in the newly retired jersey of Steven Stamkos hanging in the rafters of the Progressive Auto Sales Arena could not be contained as Jordan Kyrou (STL, 2016 2nd round pick) and Adam Ruzicka (CGY, 2017 4th round pick) led the Sarnia Sting in doing what no team in nearly thirty games has been able to do – defeat the Soo in regulation. The first game for Taylor Raddysh since being named OHL and CHL Player-of-the-Week was a disaster along with linemates Boris Katchouk and Morgan Frost (PHI, 2017 1st round pick), all three held pointless by the Sting and each slapped with a -3 rating. One of the few bright spots for the Greyhounds was Hayden Verbeek (undrafted), nephew of Pat Verbeek, who scored in the 3rd to tie the game at 3-3 before Kyrou and Ruzicka combined to sink the Soo’s regulation win streak.
