First Period
4:06 CAR Cajkovsky (1), (McKegg)
13:05 Wallmark (1), (Bean, Svechnikov)(PP)

Second Period
19:09 CAR Zykov (1), (Brown, VanReimsdyk)

Third Period
4:38 TB Joseph (1), (Raddysh, Johnson)(PP)
7:11 CAR Svechnikov (1), (DiGiuseppe, Wallmark)(PP)

Mathieu Joseph was the game's third star.

It was the first preseason game, so we should put very little weight on this one. Still, you'd have hoped for a little better with a lot of your top back end players in the lineup, but the team just lacked possession in the preseason opener.

Joseph had a goal and was -1 in 15:17 with 3 shots and 2 hits in 15:17.

Alexei Lipanov had 1 shot and was 30% on 10 draws in 9:34. I kind of expect him to get a copy of the home game and to be returned to junior expeditiously, but we'll see.

Taylor Raddysh had a helper and was -1 in 11:49.

Jonne Tammela had 1 hit in 9:19.

Dominik Masin had 4 penalty minutes and 1 blocked shot in 15:59.

Alexander Volkov had 1 shot and 1 hit in 18:40 in premier minutes with the top liners.

Gabriel Fortier was -1 with 2 penalty minutes and 2 hits in 13:16. I'd expect he also goes the same route back to junior sooner rather than later, although he got a good amount of minutes relative to more established prospects tonight.

The Titan scored goals in the first and in the second to build a 2-0 lead at the 2nd intermission. Drake Batherson (OTT, 2017 4th round pick) scored late in the 3rd to pull the Armada within one, but the equalizer never came as Titan goalie Evan Fitzpatrick (STL, 2016 2nd round pick) stopped 29 Armada shots. For the 20-year-old Alex Barré-Boulet, that’s the end of his illustrious QMJHL career in which he compiled 140-197-337 in 263 regular season games, and 28-32-60 in 42 playoff games. He’ll be suiting up for the Syracuse Crunch in the fall as he begins his pro career.

The Soo built a 3-2 lead by the 2nd intermission behind a goal and a power play assist by Katchouk. But the Bulldogs stormed back with three straight 3rd period markers to take a 5-3 lead late into the game. Katchouk and Raddysh would combine each for their 2nd assist of the game on Jordan Sambrook’s (DET, 2016 5th round pick) first goal of the playoffs to draw the Greyhounds to within one with 45 seconds to go. The equalizer would not come as Hamilton punches their ticket to vie for the Memorial Cup in Regina. Robert Thomas (STL, 2017 1st round pick) and MacKenzie Entwistle (ARI, 2017 3rd round pic) paced the Bulldogs each with a goal and an assist. For Katchouk and Raddysh, this bring an end to their OHL careers, with both players expected to suit up for the Syracuse Crunch in their first pro seasons. Kachouk finishes 101-101-202 in 199 regular season OHL games, and 32-25-57 in 46 playoff games. Raddysh finishes 120-172-292 in 241 OHL regular season games, and 32-47-79 in 77 playoff games.

The Titan pulled off a huge road win getting goals from five different skaters to push the Armada to the brink of elimination when the teams play again Sunday in Acadie. The Armada opened the scoring with a power play marker just three minutes into the game, but that would be their only lead. The Titan would reel off three straight goals to take command of the contest, and set themselves up to punch their ticket to the Memorial Cup in front of their home fans.

The Bulldogs built a commanding 5-1 lead behind a pair of 2nd period goals by Robert Thomas (STL, 2017 1st round pick), and then weathered a furious 3rd period rally by the Soo. Bolt prospect Boris Katchouk scored his 18th of the playoffs, a power play marker set up by fellow Lightning prospect Taylor Raddysh, amid a five-minute three-goal flurry that closed the gap to 5-4 with five-and-a-half minutes left to play. But with the Soo goalie pulled, Brandon Saigeon (eligible for 2018 draft) set up Nick Caamano (DAL, 2016 5th round pick) for the empty net dagger with 85 seconds left in regulation. Saigeon scored his 17th of the playoffs and added two assists to help pace Hamilton to gutsy road win that pushes the Greyhounds to possibility of elimination Sunday back in Hamilton. Depending on the outcome of this series, the OHL playoff MVP arguable comes down to Katchouk (1st points, goals, shorties), Thomas (3rd points, 2nd assists, 1st PP assists), or Saigeon (2nd goals, 1st PP goals, 1st GW goals).

Drake Batherson (OTT, 2017 4th round pick) scored twice in the 3rd and the Armada evened the series with the Titan impressively in a road must-win game. After a scoreless 1st period, the Armada scored thrice in the 2nd period, including Barre-Boulet setting up Alexander Katerinakis (2018 draft eligible) for what would be the eventual game-winner. The series returns to Boisbriand for Game 5 on Friday night.

The Wonder Twins scored 34 seconds into the game, Bolt prospects Taylor Raddysh setting up Boris Katchouk for his league leading 17th goal of the playoffs. Katchouk’s 33 points and Raddysh’s 31 points also lead the league in playoff points. Nick Caamano (DAL, 2016 5th round pick) scored a short-handed marker for the Bulldogs, and period ended tied 1-1. Jack Kopacka (ANA, 2016 4th round pick) scored in the 2nd to give the Soo a 2-1 lead at the second break. Hamilton rallied in the 3rd with Rily Stillman (FLA, 2016 4th round pick) knotting the score at 2-2 and forcing OT. Noah Carroll (CAR, 2016 6th round pick) scored at 9:13 in the extra session to give the Soo the Game 4 victory, tying the series at 2-2 as the team’s head back to Sault Ste. Marie for Game 5 on Friday.
