AHL Game Night: 3-15-19 Wolf Pack at Crunch

Syracuse takes the North Division lead with smooth victory over Hartford.

HFD-2
SYR-3

Eddie Pasquale allowed 2 goals on 26 shots for the victory.

First Period
1:07 SYR Volkov (14), (Dumont, Conacher)

Second Period
19:27 SYR Andreoff (23), (Raddysh, Colton)

Third Period
1:56 SYR Stephens (10), (Katchouk, Brassart)
11:51 HFD Fontaine (9), (Gilmour, Beleskey)(PP)
18:53 HFD Lettieri (23), (Gilmour, Gropp)

Gabriel Dumont, Taylor Raddysh, and Boris Katchouk were the game's three stars. Katchouk made perhaps the play of the game with a Vincent Lecavalier-esque move around the corner on the rush and a behind-the-back pass that ended up being the goal that pushed the Syracuse lead to 3-0 that he chased with a roughing call and unsportsmanlike conduct penalty after starting a retaliatory scrap right after the goal. In other words, a Katchouk-ian microcosm of Katchouk-ianism. The goal gave the Crunch that all important three goal margin in the final frame. And, yes, Hartford did get the old false hope goal, but in the end the three goal lead remains a virtual death sentence for the trailing team in pro hockey.

With Rochester stubbing their toe against Charlotte, Syracuse moved one point ahead in the North Division while still holding a game in hand. Also of note: Syracuse is just a scant three points back of the Checkers for the best record in the entire AHL with both teams sitting on 14 games remaining on their schedules.

AHL Game Night: 3-13-19 Crunch at Rocket

Crunch keep pace by doubling up Laval.

SYR-4
LAV-2

Eddie Pasquale allowed 2 goals on 32 shots for the victory.

First Period
2:39 LAV Ouellet (4), (unassisted)(PP)
14:28 SYR Foote (8), (Andreoff)

Second Period
18:37 SYR Raddysh (16), (Colton, Stephens)(PP)

1:14 SYR Dumont (10), (unassisted)
18:43 LAV Vejdemo (12), (Evans, Alain)
19:15 SYR Barre-Boulet (29), (Pasquale)(EN)

Pasquale and Gabriel Dumont were the game's first and second stars. Taylor Raddysh is started to sneak up on the 20 goal plateau while Ross Colton has continued his hot run of production as of late. In his last six games, Colton has a stylish 3 goals and 8 points.

Unfortunately, Rochester also won tonight, so Syracuse only managed to keep pace in the division. They currently sit one point back of the Americans with a game in hand.

4:11 SYR Valleau (1), (Raddysh, Katchouk)
14:12 SYR Verhaeghe (12), (Raddysh, Dumont)
18:28 SYR Foote (5), (Katchouk, Raddysh)(PP)

Second Period

12:08 SYR Verhaeghe (13), (unassisted)
14:53 UTI Arseneau (1), (Darcy, Blujus)
18:44 SYR Conacher (12), (Dumont, Raddysh)(SH)

Third Period
7:52 SYR Dumont (3), (Andreoff, Gaunce)(SH)
8:17 SYR Katchouk (5), (Raddysh, Foote)(SH)
16:02 SYR Foote (6), (Colton, Bourke)
18:32 SYR Yan (8), (Bourke, Volkov)

Taylor Raddysh, Cal Foote, and Boris Katchouk were the game's three stars, which had to be music to the organization's ears. These were three of the most highly touted rookies joining the pro ranks this year and now all three are really rounding the corner and producing regularly, whereas before it was seemingly just Raddysh finding the scoresheet regularly.

Considering Utica's only goal was assisted by two ex-Bolt Prospects, Cam Darcy and Dylan Blujus, it darned near was 11-0 Syracuse.

Third Period
9:42 SYR Gaunce (2), (Thomas, Barre-Boulet)(PP)
15:01 SYR Volkov (3), (Thomas)

Taylor Raddysh, Erik Cernak, and Carter Verhaeghe were the game's three stars. Raddysh had a strong weekend with 2 goals and 3 points in the two games on Friday and Sunday. He's now up to 9 points in his opening 10 games of the season, setting the pace among the Crunch's young rookie crop thanks to a 6 game point streak.

Syracuse climbs back to .500 for the campaign at 5-5-1. The Crunch are still in last place in the North Division, but they've just about caught up to the pack now with just 2 points separating Syracuse from 4th place in the division and the Crunch holding at least a game in hand on every team in the North, and in many cases holding 3-4 games in hand. Ben Groulx's club has a real opportunity to make a run in the near term.
