This one hurts. Florida outshot the K-Wings 38-19, including 16-1 in the second period, yet the ‘Blades came up on the losing end in Game 2, falling 3-2 in Kalamazoo. Florida, who got a shutout from Lightning prospect Pat Nagle in Game 1, held a 1-0 lead entering the third period. The K-Wings scored twice in just under two minutes to take a 2-1 lead, but Florida replied with a Matt Beca goal assisted by Lightning prospect Sebastien Piche (pictured) at 15:01. Two and a half minutes later the K-Wings scored the game winner and secured the Game 2 win, regaining home ice advantage. The series now shifts to southwest Florida for games 3-5. Nagle faced seven shots through two periods. He allowed three goals on 12 shots in the final stanza. Game 3 is Wednesday. (Photo courtesy of Swamphockey.com)

Wow. Nagle, Piche, and the Everblades swept Elmira in southwest Florida to claim the series 4-1. The ‘Blades stole home ice advantage away from Elmira by winning Game 2 in New York, then won all three games at home to advance to the Eastern Conference Finals. Nagle lowered his goals against average to 1.36 in the 2-1 win. Florida scored both of their goals in the third period. They outshot Elmira by a large margin yet again, this time 43-19, including 19-4 in the third period. Florida will play the winner of third-seeded Kalamazoo and seventh-seeded South Carolina. The Stingrays won on Friday night to avoid elimination and a sweep. The K-Wings are up 3-1 in the series. This is Florida’s first appearance in the conference finals since 2007.

Lightning prospect Pat Nagle stopped all 24 shots he faced to earn his second professional playoff win and first professional playoff shutout while leading the upstart Florida Everblades to a 2-0 win in Game 4 against top-seeded Elmira. Florida leads the series 3-1 and can close out the Jackals at home in Game 5 on Friday. If Elmira wins in Game 5, the next two games are back in New York. If that happens, Florida could possibly get John Muse, the goaltender who started this series for Florida, back. Muse has a lower body injury and despite rumors he’s done for the series and maybe longer, the team is saying he could return soon. In the meantime, the team will ride Nagle, who matched his shutout total from the regular season in one night. (Photo courtesy of swamphockey.com)

For the second straight night Florida outplayed Elmira, but this time they came out on top, 5-0. The best-of-7 series now goes to Florida for the next three games. Florida outshot Elmira 32-19 on Saturday and through two games has a 78-36 shot advantage. Lightning prospect Pat Nagle got some action when he started the third period for John Muse, who had already backstopped Florida to a 5-0 lead entering the final frame. Muse was shaken up late in the second period. The game got ugly late when several misconducts were handed out. Former Lightning first rounder and Elmira captain Mario Larocque was thrown out of the game in the second period for attempting to injure a player. Trevor Bruess had two goals for Florida. Game 3 is Monday.
