Kucherov’s final goal was scored into an empty net. Fellow Lightning prospect Artem Sergeev did not play. It is thought he is preparing for Russia’s World Junior camp, but nothing has been confirmed. Kucherov is also on the camp roster and is obviously still playing. And playing well.

Our reigning Prospect of the Week, Cedric Paquette extended his point streak to five games with an assist in a loss to the Volts on the NHL Network. He took 30 of the team’s 66 faceoffs, winning 18 of them. He saw extensive time in the first period during an extended power play, firing several shots on goal. He also had a big hit on the forecheck that sent a Volt to the training room.

D Artem Sergeev, VDO: Did not play

Kingston Frontenacs 1 @ Brampton Battalion 4

D Dylan Blujus, BRAM: 0-0-0, E, 2 PIM
Season totals: 30 GP, 2-10-12, -5, 26 PIM

Brampton won its second-straight game and seventh in its past 10 games, downing visiting Kingston, 4-1. After a hot streak, Blujus is scoreless in his last five games. Backup goaltender Brandon Hope stopped 42 of 45 shots and all three shootout attempts he faced to win the game’s first star award for the Attack.

D Jake Dotchin, OS: 0-1-1, E, 2 PIM
Season totals: 28 GP, 2-7-9, +2, 31 PIM

Jake Dotchin got his name on the scoresheet for the fourth time in his last five games with an assist in Owen Sound’s shootout victory over the Whalers on Wednesday. The Attack have won 5-straight games and are one point behind London for first in the Midwest Division.

Peterborough Petes 2 @ Belleville Bulls 3 (OT)

D Slater Koekkoek, PBO: 0-0-0, -1, 0 PIM
Season totals: 29 GP, 4-18-22, -24, 20 PIM

Slater Koekkoek had his 4-game point streak snapped in a close loss in Belleville. This was Koekkoek’s first game since being left off the invite list for Canada’s World Junior Selection Camp. It’s not a huge surprise that he wasn’t on the roster considering, due to injury, he wasn’t on Canada’s initial radar. We expect Koekkoek to be a big part of Canada’s WJC representation next year.

Prospect of the Week: December 3, 2012

This week we continue our Prospect of the Week award, an honor (virtually) given to one Tampa Bay Lightning prospect for their recent contributions on and off the ice.

This week’s winner made people remove their chapeaus and toss them onto a sheet of frozen water to delay a sporting match.

The Prospect of the Week for December 3 is … Cedric Paquette, center, Blainville-Boisbriand (QMJHL – Canada)

Paquette started the year off on the wrong foot when he would frequently retaliate to opposing players’ efforts to get under his skin. The final straw for the coaching staff was when the 6-1, 200-pound center took a bad penalty away from the play in the closing minutes of a tie game, resulting in an Armada loss. The team suspended Paquette for one game and removed his alternate captain’s letter from his jersey.

Drummondville scored on the power play in overtime after Paquette’s 13th goal of the season tied the game with just over six minutes left in the third period. Paquette scored once in each period of regulation. He has a 4-game point streak and has registered at least a point in 10 of his last 12 games. The hat trick was his first since the playoffs last April against Rimouski.

D Jake Dotchin, OS: 0-1-1, E, 0 PIM
Season totals: 27 GP, 2-6-8, +2, 29 PIM

After starting the season with a point in just four of his first 23 games, Jake Dotchin has hit the scoresheet in three of his last four contests. Solid in his own end of the ice, if Dotchin is able to develop his offensive game at this level, look out.
