Nagle didn’t get a lot of time to stew over his seven-goals-against game Saturday night in Trenton as he was thrown back in the net Sunday in Reading. The first year pro responded with a Third Star effort, stopping 24 of 26 shots to get the win. Norfolk Admirals property Philip-Michael Devos (pictured) scored his second of the year for the ‘Blades (2-1-0-1) in the victory. Carolina Hurricanes draft pick Justin Shugg leads Florida in scoring after five games with three goals and eight points. Florida outshot Reading 22-5 in the first period, skating to an early 3-0 lead.

Not a good night for Nagle, who let in seven goals as the Everblades (1-2-0-1) dropped their second road game of the season, 8-5. Florida had a 5-2 lead with under three minutes to play in the second period before giving up two quick goals on the power play before the start of the third period. By midway through the third they had given up two more power play goals. Down by two in the waning minutes, they gave up an empty netter. On the plus side, Alex Hutchings (pictured) scored his second goal of the season for Florida. Philip-Michael Devos (Norfolk Admirals property) was back in the lineup for Florida and had a goal. He has two points in three games this season. The ‘Blades and their penalty kill problems will play in Reading on Sunday. Nagle, whose save percentage dropped around .800 points Saturday, may be back in the net again as Carolina goaltending prospect John Muse was called up to AHL Charlotte.

The Everblades (1-1-0-1) dropped their first road game of the season in Elmira, falling to the Jackals (3-0), 5-2. Alex Hutchings was scoreless in the game and Nagle sat backup to Carolina prospect John Muse (28/32). Norfolk property Philip-Michael Devos was not in the lineup for the ‘Blades. Former Sabres captain Craig Rivet was Third Star for the Jackals.

Carolina prospect and Florida goaltender John Muse stopped 33 of 34 shots in regulation and overtime and seven of 10 shootout attempts, but the ‘Blades could only beat Gwinnet goalie Jeff Jakaitis twice in the extra-extra session, giving the Gladiators a win. Alex Hutchings was Florida’s first shooter, and did not convert. AHL Norfolk property Philip-Michael Devos was scoreless in the game and failed to convert his shootout attempt.

First official professional game

Lightning prospect Alex Hutchings scored what turned out to be the game winning goal at 14:54 of the second period and fellow Bolt prospect Pat Nagle made it stand up as the Everblades won their season opener over Gwinnett, 3-2. It was the second straight Second Star award for Nagle counting preseason games. Norfolk Admirals property Philip-Michael Devos had an assist in the game. Mike McKenzie, son of TSN personality Bob McKenzie, also had an assist for the 'Blades and was Third Star. The two teams play again Saturday night.
