ECHL Preseason Game Night: 10-5-12

The ECHL preseason got underway for the defending champion Florida Everblades on Friday night, as they the return of the Orlando Solar Bears with a 6-3 victory.

ORL – 3
FLA – 6

Lightning prospect Pat Nagle went the distance in net for the ‘Blades, stopping 29 of 32 shots. Dan Milan, playing his first professional game, was scoreless with a shot on goal and two penalty minutes.

The two teams face off again on Saturday night.

Crunch Make First Two Cuts

The Syracuse Crunch have announced that they have reassigned goaltender Pat Nagle and defenseman Daniel Milan to Florida of the ECHL. Nagle played in 39 games for the Everblades last season, while Milan is entering his rookie professional season.

Syracuse opens its season October 12th at Rochester.

Bolts Increase the Population of Syracuse

The Tampa Bay Lightning assigned 18 players to the Syracuse Crunch of the AHL ahead of what appears to be an NHL lockout, vice president and general manager Steve Yzerman announced.

Among the players moving to New York are reigning AHL Most Valuable Player Cory Conacher, former No.6 overall pick Brett Connolly, and last year's late-season signing, J.T. Brown. Others include recently signed prospects Vladislav Namestnikov, Danick Gauthier, Dmitry Korobov, and Riku Helenius. The additions of Connolly, Brown, Namestnikov, and Korobov will make the Crunch a stronger team, which is scary considering they were already among the favorites to claim the Calder Cup.

The full list of new Syracuse residents includes forwards Brown, Conacher, Connolly, Gauthier, Alex Hutchings, Tyler Johnson, Alex Killorn, Namestnikov, Ondrej Palat, Richard Panik; defensemen Mark Barberio, Radko Gudas, Korobov, Charles Landry, Dan Milan; and goaltenders Helenius, Dustin Tokarski, and Pat Nagle.

We'll offer some opinions shortly on who could end up in ECHL Florida with the Everblades and who likely stays in Syracuse.

North American Juniors Game Night: 3-28-12

1-Saint John Sea Dogs 5 @ 16-Cape Breton Screaming Eagles 1
QMJHL First Round – Saint John wins best of seven series 4-0

C Danick Gauthier, SNB: 1-0-1, E, 2 PIM (holding), 5 SOG, 1 Hit
Playoff Totals: 4 GP, 5-2-7, +3, 2 PIM
Season Totals: 67 GP, 47-39-86, +46, 67 PIM

The good news for Cape Breton is it’s over. Saint John “only” scored five goals against them in Game 4, after scoring 13, 8 and 8 in the first three games. Gauthier scored his fifth goal of the series in Game 4. The Sea Dogs will face Baie-Comeau in the quarterfinals.

3-Blainville-Boisbriand Armada 4 @ 14-Gatineau Olympiques 3 (OT)
QMJHL First Round – Blainville-Boisbriand wins best of seven series 4-0

D Adam Janosik, GAT: 1-1-2, +1, 2 PIM (roughing), 2 SOG, 3 Hits
Playoff Totals: 4 GP, 1-2-3, -7, 10 PIM
Season Totals: 51 GP, 6-26-32, -13, 55 PIM

In what was probably the last junior game of his career, Adam Janosik (pictured) had a goal, assist, and was named second star as the Olympiques couldn’t hold a lead and fell to the Armada in overtime. A former third round pick of the Lightning, Janosik is up for a contract from the Lightning. If he’s not signed by June 1, he goes back in the draft. He could be signed by AHL Norfolk to a tryout agreement and play and practice with the team, or be assigned to ECHL Florida. There doesn’t appear to be any open spots with either club, however. Perhaps he’s brought in to practice with his future team.

4-Victoriaville Tigres 4 @ 13-Baie-Comeau Drakkar 5 (OT)
QMJHL First Round – Baie-Comeau wins best of seven series 4-0

D Daniel Milan, VIC: Did not play
Playoff Totals: 3 GP, 0-0-0, -2, 0 PIM
Season Totals (MON, VIC): 62 GP, 2-9-11, -16, 73 PIM

Tigres fans have to be furious after their fourth-seeded club just got swept by the 13th-seeded team. At least this game was close, won in overtime by the Drakkar. The previous game was a blowout. Milan did not play in Game 4, which made Game 3 the final game of his junior career. He’s already signed to an NHL contract and like Janosik could join the organization in some fashion this year with a tryout agreement. If not, he’ll join next season. It’s been a disappointing year statistically for Milan, who had 40 points last season. While signed for his defense, few expected him to finish with 11 points in 62 games, especially in the wide-open QMJHL.

E1-Niagara IceDogs 3 @ E8-Oshawa Generals 5
OHL First Round –Best of seven series tied 2-2

D Geoffrey Schemitsch, OSH: 0-0-0, -2, 2 PIM (hooking)
Playoff Totals: 4 GP, 0-2-2, -2, 2 PIM
Season Totals (OS, OSH): 48 GP, 2-17-19, +8, 24 PIM

Coyotes pick and Team Canada WJC veteran Mark Visentin allowed five goals on 23 shots as Niagara had their 2-0 series lead completely erased by eighth-seeded Oshawa. Columbus pick Boone Jenner, a favorite of Bolt Prospects heading into the draft last summer, had a goal and two assists for the Gens. Former Lightning draft pick Brock Beukeboom was scoreless in Game 4 for Niagara. His rights were traded to the Blues in the Eric Brewer trade last year. He had 16 points in 47 games for Niagara this season.

North American Juniors Game Night: 3-27-12

1-Saint John Sea Dogs 8 @ 16-Cape Breton Screaming Eagles 2
QMJHL First Round – Saint John leads the best of seven series 3-0

C Danick Gauthier, SNB: 2-0-2, +1, 0 PIM, 3 SOG, 3 Hits, *First Star*
Playoff Totals: 3 GP, 4-2-6, +3, 0 PIM
Season Totals: 67 GP, 47-39-86, +46, 67 PIM

Mercy. Saint John crushed Cape Breton for the third straight game, this time 8-2. They’ve scored 29 goals in three games. Gauthier was first star for his two goals on Tuesday. Minnesota prospect and former Sharks pick Charlie Coyle also had two goals to give him eight goals and 12 points in three games. He had an assist taken away from his six point game in Game 1. The slaughter will likely end Wednesday in Sydney in Game 4.

3-Blainville-Boisbriand Armada 8 @ 14-Gatineau Olympiques 5
QMJHL First Round – Blainville-Boisbriand leads best of seven series 3-0

D Adam Janosik, GAT: 0-1-1, -1, 2 PIM (unsportsmanlike conduct), 1 SOG, 0 Hits
Playoff Totals: 3 GP, 0-1-1, -8, 8 PIM
Season Totals: 51 GP, 6-26-32, -13, 55 PIM

Janosik’s junior career may only have one game left in it as the Armada are on the verge of a sweep in their first round series with Gatineau. Game 4 is Wednesday night in the Olympiques barn. Janosik’s assist was his first point of the playoffs.

4-Victoriaville Tigres 3 @ 13-Baie-Comeau Drakkar 5
QMJHL First Round – Baie-Comeau leads best of seven series 3-0

D Daniel Milan, VIC: 0-0-0 -1, 2 PIM (slashing), 0 SOG, 0 Hits
Playoff Totals: 3 GP, 0-0-0, -2, 0 PIM
Season Totals (MON, VIC): 62 GP, 2-9-11, -16, 73 PIM

Fourth-seeded Victoriaville fell in an 0-3 hole in the series to the 13th seed, and did it by allowing a snowman in Game 3. The Tigres coach is likely in hot water considering Victoriaville had Memorial Cup aspirations not too long ago. The Drakkar can sweep the Tigres on Wednesday in Game 4.
