AHL Game Night: 1-22-10 Admirals at Falcons

The Admirals get a big win for their new coach in a game they absolutely had to have.

Jaroslav Janus allowed 2 goals on 19 shots for his first professional win. The Admirals outshot the Falcons 36-19 in the game.

PTO Matt Fornataro and Ty Wishart were the game's first and second stars. I don't want to oversell it, but Wishart is becoming a real offensive star for Norfolk. In his last 20 games, Wishart has 6 goals and 13 points. He's also -2 over that span. That's pretty good considering in his first 22 games he had 1 goal, 3 points, and he was -12.

Congratulations to Mitch Fadden for his first professional point and his first multi-point night as a professional. He's been working hard of late to get it. It's nice to see the floodgates start to part a bit. Here's to hoping that first pro goal isn't far behind.

Jim Johnson is 1-0-0 as Head Coach. You can't argue with the winning percentage. Norfolk is now 6 points behind the Penguins for the final playoff spot in the East Division.

AHL Game Night: 1-16-10 Phantoms at Admirals

Just like the big club, the Admirals hurt themselves by coming up blank in back-to-back games against a division opponent that was close in the standings.

NOR-1

Jarsolav Janus allowed 2 goals on 26 shots for the loss. I feel bad for the young man. He's still looking for his first win and he's just not getting any goal support from the team in front of him.

AHL Game Night: 1-15-10 Phantoms at Admirals

The Admirals have got to win these close division games if they have any shot of climbing into the playoffs.

NOR-2

Jaroslav Janus allowed 3 goals on 29 shots for the loss. It's the first time in four AHL starts this season that Janus has had a sub-.900 save percentage in a game. He has yet to taste victory as a pro despite his .919 season save percentage.

AHL Game Night: 1-2-09 Admirals at Phantoms

Janus loses a squeaker in his return to the Admirals.

ADK-3

Jaroslav Janus allowed 3 goals on 33 shots for the loss. Interesting factoid: Janus makes three members of the Admirals from the mean streets of Presov, Slovakia (Mihalik and Simek).

Juraj Simek was named the game's second star.

In 19 games since returning to Norfolk from his recall to Tampa, Ryan Craig has just 3 goals. With Brandon Bochenski now up with the Lightning, it's going to be critical for Craig, along with other guys like Radek Smolenak, to step up. On a similar note, don't you wish the Lightning's more touted prospects all were playing as well as an unheralded guy like Juraj Simek?
