QMJHL
Moncton Wildcats 3 @ Halifax Mooseheads 2
D Mark Barberio, MCT: 0-2-2, E, 0 PIM, 1 SOG
Season Totals: 30 GP, 2-22-24, +7, 32 PIM
Barberio set up Nova Scotia native Scott Brannan (undrafted) shorthanded with 87 seconds left in the game for the winner over Halifax.
OHL
Belleville Bulls 2 @ Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds 5
RW Kyle DeCoste, BEL: 0-0-0, E, 5 PIM (elbowing, game misconduct)
Season Totals: 29 GP, 10-8-18, -1, 31 PIM
With Bulls: 16 GP, 8-7-15, +1, 11 PIM
With SSM: 13 GP, 2-1-3, -2, 20 PIM
DeCoste made his first return to the Soo after being traded from the Greyhounds earlier this year. It wasn’t the return he was hoping for as he was thrown out midway through the second period for elbowing an unsuspecting Tomas Rachunek in the head. Rachunek left the ice with a cut on his head and an apparent shoulder injury. SSM scored on the ensuing power play. Like it did when he was traded from Brampton to the Soo last year, DeCoste’s game has taken off since being traded. Up until Friday night he was producing at a point-per-game clip for the Bulls. He was named the team's Most Improved Player by the Belleville paper this week.

With Norfolk (AHL): 2 GP, 0-2-0, 1.52 GAA, .939 sv%

C Richard Panik, WSR: 1-0-1, +1, 0 PIM
Season Totals: 32 GP, 9-9-18, +15, 19 PIM

WHL
Regina Pats 2 @ Medicine Hat Tigers 7
RW Carter Ashton, REG: 0-0-0, -1, 0 PIM
Season Totals: 28 GP, 13-13-26, -9, 52 PIM
With Regina: 1 GP, 0-0-0, -1, 0 PIM
With Lethbridge: 28 GP, 13-13-26, -8, 52 PIM
Ashton made his debut for Regina wearing No.25 and starting the game on a line next to super-prospect Jordan Eberle (Oilers 1/2008) and Matt Strueby (undrafted). The line produced one goal in the game, an unassisted marker by Eberle. The Pats' Eberle and Colton Teubert will not play again for Regina in 2009 as they leave to attend Canada's WJC camp. Both are locks to make the club. Ashton will not wait long to face his former club as he and the remaining Pats will take on Lethbridge Saturday night.

C Richard Panik, WSR: 1-0-1, +1, 0 PIM
Season Totals: 31 GP, 8-9-17, +14, 19 PIM
Welcome back, Mr. Janus (pictured). The Slovakia native returned from missing several games due to injury to reportedly put on a show in a loss to the CHL’s top ranked team, Windsor. Fellow Lightning prospect Richard Panik beat Janus early in the second period for what turned out to be the game winner for the Spits. It has been 23 games since Windsor lost in regulation.
Mississauga St. Michael’s Majors 4 @ Oshawa Generals 5 (OT)
G Michael Zador, OSH: Win, 33 saves on 37 shots
Season Totals: 24 GP, 11-9-2-1, 3.25 GAA, .900 sv%, 1 SO
Oshawa scored with just over a minute left in the game to tie it, then won it on Calvin de Haan’s power play goal in overtime. De Haan was a first round pick (12th overall) of the Islanders at the 2009 NHL Entry Draft. He has 19 points (5 goals) in 26 games this season for Oshawa. Zador has won four straight starts and has not lost in regulation in seven games.

Season Totals: 30 GP, 18-20-38, +17, 22 PIM
Hutchings scored his fourth shorthanded goal in the last three games, extending his goal-scoring streak to seven games and has point streak to eight. He has eight points in his last three games and likely has a Player of the Week award in his immediate future. Barrie is on a 17 game win streak.
Sarnia Sting 2 @ Erie Otters 3 (SO)
G Jaroslav Janus, ERIE: Did not play.
Season Totals: 7 GP, 4-2-1-0, 2.93 GAA, .915 sv%
With Norfolk (AHL): 2 GP, 0-2-0, 1.52 GAA, .939 sv%
Janus served as the backup to Ramis Sadikov (2010 draft) as he continues to battle injuries. Shane Owen, Erie’s third goaltender, was let go recently upon Janus’ (re)arrival to the club from AHL Norfolk. Owen, 19, passed through OHL waivers unclaimed and has since signed with the QMJHL’s Moncton Wildcats, home of Lightning prospect Mark Barberio. Owen went 3-6-2, 4.31, .880 for Erie in Janus’ absence.
Windsor Spitfires 9 @ Peterborough Petes 5
C Richard Panik, WSR: 0-1-1, E, 7 PIM (roughing, fighting)
Season Totals: 29 GP, 7-9-16, +13, 19 PIM
Panik (pictured) tangled with Petes defenseman Chris Buonomo (2010) in his first OHL fight. Panik got in several rights before dropping him with a left (watch it here). Windsor now has at least a point in 21 straight games. At 25-3-0-3 they remain on a collision course with Barrie (25-4-0-1) for the OHL championship this spring. They play each other for the first time in the regular season on January 14.

Cape Breton Screaming Eagles 3 @ Moncton Wildcats 2
D Mark Barberio, Q: 0-1-1, +1, 0 PIM, 2 SOG
Season Totals: 22 GP, 2-13-15, +4, 22 PIM
Moncton put themselves in a 3-0 hole and could never recover. Former Lightning prospect Michael Ward finished his season with Cape Breton last season after a trade from Lewiston. He was not offered a contract by Tampa Bay, but signed with Vancouver. The Canucks re-assigned him to Cape Breton, where as a co-captain he has 15 assists (0 goals) in 17 games so far this year. He had 17 points in 30 games with the Eagles after the trade last year; 17 in 35 with Lewiston.

This is confusing. Panik was coming off a two goal game, his team scored 11, had six even strength goals, and somehow Panik goes without a point and has a team-worst minus-two rating.
