For the second night in a row, the K-Wings allowed three Walleye goals in the 3rd period. Unfortunately, they also allowed three Toledo goals in the first two periods. If there's a silver lining it's that after 12 games into his sophomore pro season, Bolt Prospect Brian Hart hit the scoresheet for the first time this season, scoring about mid-way through the 3rd period. Hart's power-play marker closed the gap to 3-2 with a half of a period to play before the wheels fell off for netminder Joel Martin and the Kalamazoo defense. Toledo scored three times in a span of 2:28, including two 49 seconds apart. The K-Wings conclude their 5-game road trip next week with back-to-back games Wednesday and Thursday nights against Indy and Fort Wayne, before returning home for a Friday night tilt against Brian Hart's former team, the Swamp Rats from Greenville.

Consecutive starts for Nic Riopel for the first time this season ends in a 4-3 shootout home victory for Toledo Friday night at the Huntington Center in front of 5300. The K-Wings appeared to have matters well in hand entering the third period with a 3-0 lead. But Kalamazoo allowed three third period goals, and the Walleye eventually garnered the extra point in the shootout. The K-Wings have earned three points so far on this 5-game road trip, with the third game being a rematch Saturday night against Toledo.

A five-game road trip is typically not the prescription to break a four-game slide that included over 200 minutes of scoreless hockey. Instead, Nic Riopel turned away 26 shots Tuesday night to help the K-Wings even their record at 6-6-0-1 while earning 3rd Star honors. The K-Wings break their winless streak in front of 7200+ Cyclones fans at the US Bank Arena for a weird Tuesday 10:30 AM start. Goaltending hasn't been the issue in Kalamazoo as Riopel checks in at 7th in the league in GAA and teammate Joel Martin is 6th in the league in SV%. The K-Wings travel on to Toledo for an important set of back-to-back games Friday and Saturday night.

The K-Wings scoreless drought finally ended at 219:48 after Kalamazoo scored in the 2nd period of Saturday night's game against Quad City. However the winless streak now stands at four consecutive and 7 of the last 10. The K-Wings hit the road for a five-game streak, starting Tuesday night in Cincinnati.

The K-Wings scoreless drought has now reached 194:55 after three consecutive 3-0 shutouts. Nic Riopel allowed just two goals, but the only place the K-Wings offense can be found is on the side of a milk carton. Bolt prospect Brian Hart was back in the lineup after being scratched Wednesday night and responded with a team-high 5 shots. Also back in the lineup for Kalamazoo fresh after being reassigned by Syracuse was defenseman Adam Comrie. Kalamazoo completes its 3-game home stand Saturday night against the Mallards from the Quad Cities.

The K-Wings scoreless drought reached 134:55 after consecutive games of 3-0 shutouts. Wednesday night the Toledo Walleye administered the lockdown. Bolts prospect Brian Hart, who played 7 games without registering a point, found himself serving popcorn. A puzzling start to the season for a prospect who had decent training camps. Kalamazoo continues its 3-game home stand with Cincinnati and Quad Cities on Friday and Saturday night.

Nic Riopel saved 25 of 26 shots Sunday night on the road in Wheeling, allowing just a single power play goal just past the midway point of the 2nd period. The Nailers added two empty net goals in the last minute and a half to make the victory look a bit more lopsided than it actually was. Just last weekend, Riopel allowed 8 Wheeling goals, so if you were looking for a response game, I'd say Riopel delivered. Kalamzoo returns home for a 3-game stand with Toledo rolling in Wednesday night followed by Cincinnati and Quad Cities on Friday and Saturday night.

Lightning camper Joel Martin withstood a barrage of 28 Beast shots in the first two periods and the K-wings power play chalked up two markers as Kalamazoo handed Brampton and former Lightning defenseman Mike Vernace their first regulation loss of the season. Martin snagged yet another first star honor and maintains Top-10 in the league in SV%, and forward Anthony Camara scored two goals after being signed by Kalamazoo earlier in the day. Camara, a former 2011 3rd round pick by the Bruins, spent the last three seasons in the AHL with Providence and Charlotte. Brampton backliner Mike Vernace played 10 games with Tampa and parts of two seasons with the Norfolk Admirals before being traded with James Wright to the Panthers organization for now legendary Lightning blueliners Mike Kostka and Evan Oberg. That trade for Kostka and Oberg was key to that historic 2011-12 Admirals win streak and Calder Cup championship.

The K-Wings get a travel day Saturday before an afternoon tilt Sunday against the Nailers in Wheeling. Last weekend goalie Nic Riopel gave up 8 goals against the Nailers, so it will be interesting to see he gets a shot at redemption despite no back-to-back.

It was the tale of two Tylers in Kalamazoo Sunday afternoon, as the K-Wings went 3-for-4 on the power play and powered by the Americans in front of 2400+ fans at the Wings Event Center. Former Maple Leafs 1st rounder Tyler Biggs scored twice and added a third power play point and former Blues 4th rounder Tyler Shattock added two more goals. Lightning camper Joel Martin maintained his sub-2 GAA after allowing the most goals (3) in a game for the season. He's currently ranked 9th in the league in both GAA and SV%.

Kalamazoo hits the road next weekend, taking on the Beast in Brampton Friday night, and look to go into Wheeling Sunday afternoon and avenge Saturday night's snowman debacle. With no back-to-back next weekend, it will be interesting to watch and see if Nic Riopel gets a start.

With Adam Comrie recalled to Syracuse, the K-Wings played a home-and-home with the Wheeling Nailers Friday and Saturday night. On Friday night at home in front 1200+ fans at the Wing Event Center, Kalamazoo battled to a 3-2 shootout loss behind two powerplay goals by Eric Kattelus.

On Saturday night, Nic Riopel was hammered as the Nailers put a snowman up on the board in front of 2100+ of their fans at the WesBanco Areana. If Lightning prospect Brian Hart is looking to get into the Syracuse lineup, he's going to have to do better than the 1 shot-on-goal in 4 games thus far. Kalamazoo plays at home against Allen Sunday night to complete the weekend 3-in-3.
