Brett Connolly's game has been simmering nicely the past several weeks in Syracuse, but in his last two games he's gotten white hot. Tonight's 2 goals and 3 points marked the second straight 3 point game for the former first rounder and it included a wonderful individual effort tonight to score a goal to get within 1 and the primary assist on the tying goal. In the last 15 games Connolly has 8 goals and 19 points, and he's starting to close in on a point a game for the season at 20 points in 23 games. After failing to gain traction in his first Tampa Bay cup of coffee this season, Connolly may be making a case for another audition soon.

Vladislav Namestnikov and Brett Connolly were the game's first and second stars. Just what the doctor ordered. Namestnikov, playing in his second game back from the broken hand, was joined in the lineup by Pierre-Cedric Labrie to go along with previous reinforcement like Tyrell and DiSalvatore and tonight it finally started to click for the beleaguered Crunch. Now, perhaps, the road back to the playoffs can begin.

Syracuse's win squares their record at 14-14-1-3, 5 points back of Adirondack for the final Eastern Conference playoff spot. The Crunch head to Binghamton tomorrow night trying to put together a streak.

SYR- Rankin, Paquette
HER- Stoa, Galiev, Mitchell

Evan Rankin and Mike Angelidis were the game's first and second stars.

It should be noted the Syracuse lineup did not include Dana Tyrell or Matt Taormina, both of which were returned by Tampa Bay today, nor did it include the freshly signed and recalled J.P. Cote. So, perhaps tonight's result wasn't all that bad under the circumstances.

Gudlevskis and Brett Connolly were the game's first and second stars. In the last 7 games, Connolly has 2 goals and 5 points as he continues to come out of his early season funk. It's a good thing.

Syracuse is 3 points out of the #8 spot in the Eastern Conference with a game in hand on Norfolk after the Admirals' loss to Springfield tonight. Syracuse faces Hershey on Wednesday as they try to maintain contact for a playoff spot while the organization gets healthy and they have the opportunity to reload. Every win right now is a little life line.

There's not much to feel positive about from this contest. Syracuse was dominated on the shot board 47-15 and dominated on the scoreboard 6-2. The two teams square off again tomorrow when the Crunch will have a chance at redemption. As an old hockey hand once told me, it's really hard to paste the same team two nights in a row.

AHL Game Night: 12-7-13 Admirals at Crunch

Syracuse loses a tight one.

NOR-2
SYR-1

Kristers Gudlevskis allowed 2 goals on 24 shots for the loss. It's his first AHL loss and it comes in his 7th AHL decision.

Eric Neilson was the game's second star.

There are no moral victories in professional sports, but it's interesting to note that as depleted as Syracuse is they played pretty much even with a decent Norfolk team. That speaks to the character and coaching of the team, in my opinion. Syracuse faces St. John's next on Tuesday.

Florida took an early lead but three-straight Fort Wayne tallies proved enough for the hosts to take the final game of the series. Kristers Gudlevskis had a rough night, his worst statistically since his third game in net for the Everblades. It was only the second time Gudlevskis let in more than two goals. Danick Gauthier, Maxime Langelier-Parent, Charles Landry and Carl Neilsen were still on assignment with AHL Syracuse. Dan Milan was scratched. Florida (13-5-2, 28 PTS) now returns home to take on Colorado (11-3-3, 25 PTS) for a back-to-back set beginning Friday night.
