Steven Stamkos was the game's second star.

Just some uncharacteristically bad situational hockey from the Lightning that really let them down tonight. They allowed goals in the final minute of the First and Second Periods as well as Overtime, when they've generally been the team that's more clutch late in frames this year. That combined with a little puck luck for Winnipeg on the tying Third Period goal cost the Lightning a point tonight.

Anthony Cirelli had 4 shots and 1 blocked shot in 16:54. He was also 43% on 14 draws.

Adam Erne had 1 shot and 3 hits in 10:28.

NHL Game Night: 12-13-18 Maple Leafs at Lightning

Vasilevskiy returns and dominates.

TOR-1
TB-4

Andrei Vasilevskiy allowed just 1 goal on 49 shots for the victory, tying a Lightning single game record for saves. There were at least two saves in this game that were worthy save-of-the-year candidates for the league. He's the ultimate hole card for this team. Even if you can outplay the 18 guys in front of him, you've still got to deal with Vasiy. Good luck with that.

First Period
5:26 TOR Kapanen (12), (unassisted)
8:20 TB Cirelli (9), (Callahan)(SH)

Second Period
5:31 TB Kucherov (13), (Hedman, Miller)(PP)

19:58 TB Johnson (13), (Kucherov, Girardi)

Vasilevskiy, Anthony Cirelli and Nikita Kucherov were the game's three stars.

Not the Lightning's best effort, primarily because they got into penalty trouble that accounted for 15 of the Leafs' shots tonight. That gave the Leafs the momentum, which compounded issues the Lightning were having with some sloppy puck management early on in the game. I don't feel the SOG's are completely indicative of the run of play, but it's certainly easy to say the Lightning can and probably will do better next time these two teams cross paths.

Tampa Bay pulls eight points clear of Toronto for the Atlantic Division lead with the win. Eight straight wins and nine of the last 10: If the Lightning can keep it rolling through this upcoming road trip, Tampa Bay could be in a pretty difficult to catch position at the midway point of the campaign.

Cirelli had 1 goal and 1 assist and was +2 with 2 shots, 1 hit, and 2 blocked shots in 17:38. He was also 46% on 24 draws. His shorthanded goal in the First Period was not only a thing of beauty on the breakaway, but it was a key moment that helped keep the Lightning in the game while they were facing a bit of an early onslaught.

Adam Erne had 1 shot and 3 hits in 7:37 subbing in for the nicked up Joseph.

Erik Cernak had 2 shots and 5 hits in 20:31 as well as 2 penalty minutes. The nasty way Cernak physically disposed of Kadri in the Third Period to create a 2-on-1 was a moment that I suspect dozens, if not hundreds, of other hockey players wish they could've done to Kadri themselves. Disposed of him like yesterday's garbage.

NHL Game Night: 11-29-18 Sabres at Lightning

Dump Truck avenges McDonagh.

BUF-4
TB-5

Louis Domingue... was not good, but he made a handful of critical saves in the Third Period to limp over the finish line and get the W. Allowing 4 goals on 22 shots is not a stat line you typically can get away with, needless to say. Those second and fourth goals allowed were just not acceptable. The second goal allowed that climbed up and over him was just laughably bad.

First Period
2:59 TB Girardi (2), (Killorn, Hedman)
8:49 BUF Girgensons (2), (Ristolainen, Elie)
9:45 BUF Reinhart (4), (Eichel, Bogosian)
10:28 TB Killorn (4), (Miller)
15:55 TB Kucherov (10), (Point, Cernak)

Second Period
5:39 BUF Reinhart (5), (Eichel, Nelson)

Third Period
2:29 BUF Thompson (4), (Mittelstadt)
4:12 TB Stamkos (8), (Hedman, Kucherov)(PP)
14:19 TB Paquette (5), (Sergachev, Palat)

Cedric Paquette and Nikita Kucherov were the game's first and second stars, respectively. Fitting for Dump Truck to get the GWG and rub some salt in the wound of a Sabres game that stepped over the line taking Ryan McDonagh out of the game and stepping over the line physically on more than one occasion. Paquette gives as good as he gets, and then scalded the winning snapper on the rush to put away the upstarts from upstate New York.

Complete possession dominance by the Lightning led to a wide disparity in shots and scoring chances, but goaltending can be a great equalizer when you get it... or don't get it. I'll be interested to see if Connor Ingram gets his first NHL game Saturday to give Domingue a little rest.

Describe armageddon in eight words: "The official artisanal cheese of the Buffalo Sabres." What?

Mathieu Joseph was -2 with 2 penalty minutes, 1 shot, and 2 hits in 11:30.

Anthony Cirelli was +2 with 1 shot and 1 hit in 11:33.

Erik Cernak was -1 with a helper, 3 shots, and 1 blocked shot in 16:59.

NHL Game Night: 11-27-18 Ducks at Lightning

Ducks play a pretty perfect road game to upset Lightning.

ANA-3
TB-1

Louis Domingue allowed 3 goals on 22 shots for the loss.

First Period
NO SCORING

Second Period
12:04 ANA Manson (2), (Henrique, Ritchie)
18:34 TB Point (18), (Kucherov, McDonagh)

Third Period
4:51 ANA Ritchie (2), (Aberg, Kase)(PP)
5:39 ANA Rowney (2), (Pettersson, Aberg)

Brayden Point was the game's third star.

Anaheim was able to pull off a difficult formula tonight playing a pretty perfect road game. They played a very determined, structured defensive game to clog up the neutral zone. So, they made it difficult for the Lightning to gain the zone and they kept the Lightning out to the perimeter as much as possible. They got great goaltending by Miller and they got some puck luck on the game-winning goal. It's not often an opposing team can pull this off the way the Ducks did tonight, but they managed to make it stand up. It happens. One of 82.

Mathieu Joseph had 1 shot in 9:25.

Anthony Cirelli had 1 shot and 1 hit in 12:42 and was 38% on 8 draws.

Adam Erne was -1 with 4 hits in 10:59.

Erik Cernak was +1 with 2 shots, 5 hits, and 1 blocked shot in 18:10.
