Conacher, Cory

NHL Game Night: 3-5-13 Lightning at Devils

Hoping for floodgates...

TB-5
NJ-2

Anders Lindback allowed 2 goals on 27 shots for the win. Little talked about fact: for as much negativity there is about the kid, Lindback's 8-5-1 this season.

First Period
17:04 TB Thompson (5), (Conacher, Palat)

Second Period
05:53 TB St. Louis (6), (Killorn, Lecavalier)
13:13 TB Killorn (4), (St. Louis, Lecavalier)

Third Period
08:36 TB Thompson (6), (Conacher, Salo)
13:44 NJ Henrique (6), (Carter)
15:15 NJ Elias (6), (Zajac, Kovalchuk)(PP)
18:40 TB Crombeen (1), (Hall, Thompson)(EN)

Nate Thompson, Lindback, and Martin St. Louis were the game's three stars.

The Lightning have to hope this opens the flood gates. If I view the glass half full, the team started to turn the corner against Pittsburgh. On paper I expected them to be blown out of that game so they exceeded expectations to carry a lead into the Third Period. To blow out a pretty good New Jersey team on the road is another hopeful sign. But, 1 win is just 1 win, and the Lightning need to string together several more in the next 2-3 weeks to get back to being viable as a playoff contender.

Oh, and with 1 goal and 4 assists on the night, the kids are still alright. Jon Cooper develops one heck of a good brand of young hockey player.

Alex Killorn had 1 goal and 1 assist and was +1 with 1 shot in 15:37. He's going to be a fixture in Tampa Bay for a long time, from the looks of it.

Ondrej Palat had an assist and was +2 with 3 shots in 12:33.

Pierre-Cedric Labrie had 7 penalty minutes, 1 shot, 1 hit, and 1 blocked shot in 8:26.

Cory Conacher rebounded from -3 ugliness against the Pens with 2 assists, a +2 rating, 1 shot, and 1 blocked shot in 11:49.

NHL Game Day: 3-2-13 Lightning at Bruins

Can't win a close game. Can't do it.

TB-2
BOS-3

Mathieu Garon allowed 3 goals on 27 shots for the loss.

First Period
05:32 TB Stamkos (15), (Purcell, Bergeron)(PP)
08:38 TB Killorn (3), (Purcell, St. Louis)

Second Period
03:22 BOS Seguin (4), (Hamilton, Krejci)(PP)
04:39 BOS Peverley (3), (McQuaid, Paille)

Third Period
17:44 BOS Marchand (11), (Bergeron)(PP)

Teddy Purcell was the game's third star.

Alex Killorn had a goal and was -1 with 4 shots and 1 hit in 19:06. Mark it down. 3/2/13 was the day Guy Boucher started to feed Killorn the most minutes of all the rookies.

Pierre-Cedric Labrie had 5 PIMs, 1 shot, 1 hit, and 1 blocked shot in 5:34.

Cory Conacher had 2 shots and 1 hit in 14:28.

NHL Game Day: 2-28-13 Lightning at Rangers

Everything's slipping away...

TB-1
NYR-4

Mathieu Garon allowed 4 goals on 42 shots for the loss.

First Period
07:23 NYR Hagelin (7), (McDonagh)
08:40 NYR Stepan (4), (Callahan, Girardi)
16:09 TB St. Louis (5), (Brewer, Stamkos)

Second Period
16:08 NYR Staal (2), (Miller, Nash)(PP)

Third Period
18:27 NYR Nash (4), (Richards, McDonagh)

Let's state the obvious: 1. The team can't win a close game. 2. They can't win on the road. 3. They can't beat anyone outside of the Southeast Division.

Alex Killorn was -1 with 2 penalty minutes, 4 shots, and 1 blocked shot in 16:14.

Richard Panik played 7:38.

Cory Conacher had 1 shot and 1 hit in 14:33.

NHL Game Night: 2-26-13 Sabres at Lightning

The Lightning lose one they really couldn't afford to let get away.

BUF-2
TB-1

Mathieu Garon allowed 2 goals on 21 shots for the loss.

First Period
01:24 TB Stamkos (14), (Purcell, Conacher)
10:02 BUF Hodgson (8), (Sekera, Vanek)

Second Period
NO SCORING

Third Period
00:52 BUF Myres (3), (Vanek, Hodgson)

Steven Stamkos was the game's third star.

With so many road games on the docket over the next week, the Lightning really needed to capitalize at home against a struggling Sabres team. And, to be honest, they didn't play badly, outshooting Buffalo 31-21 and really badly outchancing them, too. Unfortunately, they have Ryan Miller, who stole them a win tonight.

Alex Killorn was -2 with 4 shots and 1 hit in 12:38.

Richard Panik had 1 hit in 8:36.

Cory Conacher had a helper and was +1 with 1 shot in 17:19.

NHL Game Night: 2-24-13 Lightning at Penguins

Same problems continue to plague Lightning.

TB-3
PIT-5

Anders Lindback allowed 3 goals on 10 shots before giving way to Mathieu Garon who allowed 1 on 11 the rest of the way, taking the back door loss.

First Period
01:16 PIT Crosby (8), (Kunitz)
07:15 PIT Crosby (9), (Neal, Martin)
19:26 PIT Martin (3), (Cooke)

Second Period
01:37 TB Brewer (4), (Stamkos, Killorn)
03:14 TB Stamkos (13), (Purcell, St. Louis)(PP)
12:20 PIT Bennett (1), (Crosby, Letang)(PP)

Third Period
03:15 TB Conacher (7), (Hedman, Stamkos)
19:08 PIT Cooke (3), (Sutter, Letang)(EN)

Steven Stamkos was the game's second star.

Too many early goals allowed. Too many goals late in periods. This team seems to be playing from behind 90% of the time, and that's not a way you win games in professional hockey.

Alex Killorn had a helper and was +1 with 3 shots and 2 hits in 15:08. Good things happen when he has the puck.

Richard Panik was +1 with 2 shots and 2 blocked shots in 10:57. He had the potential tying goal on his stick on a Third Period breakaway but just didn't have the time and space to make much of a move.

Cory Conacher had a goal and was -1 with 3 shots and 1 blocked shot in 14:20. Players are taking liberties with Conacher physically and at some point someone on the Lightning needs to defend the guy. He's leading the league in rookie scoring and he's getting the snot beaten out of him. Stevie Y had a pretty good protector in his early years by the name of Bob Probert. Conacher needs a little Secret Service protection, too.
