Scouting Report

Scouting Comments:

"Power winger has shown the skill set to succeed at the next level, but also has raised some questions. His strengths are his shot and offensive instincts. Has a powerful shot and utilizes both a heavy slapper and extremely effective snap shot. Soft hands and great release and has a goal scorer's touch. Shows fine hand-eye coordination on deflections around net. An underrated passer who moves the puck very well and does a nice job getting pucks through seams and patiently waiting for teammates to open up. Skating still needs some work, especially his first few steps. One of the best natural athletes in the draft, and set numerous scoring records in soccer, buy we need to see him grind more and use his strength to win battles. Should develop quickly concentrating solely on hockey now.

Projection: Powerful 3rd liner who chips in on offense.
Style compares to: David Jones" (Red Line Report)

"Brian may draw some comparisons to former NHL player Bill Guerin. Bill possessed excellent speed at 18 years of age and it's something that Brian will have to improve upon to be considered in the same skating class. The comparison is apt in the sense that they are both hard driving players who engage physically and have the size to not only gain advantages for themselves, they have temperaments that can make an opponent hesitant to want to engage with them. Brian has a very strong shot and it can be categorized as cannon like in terms of how heavy it is. He's not afraid to shoot and do it a lot but he will take the puck to the net and he does it with determination and he has a hunger to score. He's capable of making plays but he knows the foundation of his game and he plays to those strengths. As he moves up levels, he is smart enough to know that his game will have to become less one-dimensional. Overall, he's a very good athlete who has a hunger to be better and a desire to be an imposing winger." (Craig Button, TSN)

Strengths:

Great size and strength already. Heavy shot with a quick release. Soft hands around the net and good on deflections. Great natural athlete who is an accomplished soccer player, too.

Weaknesses:

First step acceleration. Could use his size more in the physical game.

Projection:

Third line power forward
