Republican Addresses Rumors

In today’s Springfield Republican they briefly mention the Edmonton rumors:

Quote:
Falcons president and general manager Bruce Landon met with the Booster Club prior to the game. "We have two years left on our deal with Tampa Bay," Landon said, debunking a rumor that Edmonton was planning to become Springfield's parent team next season. "I told our fans that I feel their pain." Landon also assured the fans the Falcons have not been sold and will operate next season.

As Nigel mentioned in the Greco/AHL discussion, Bill Barber and Claude Loiselle canceled their appearance with Springfield fans to watch Mike Lundin play UMass. If Maine's season is indeed finished, and considering Springfield's injuries to their defensemen (Rosehill, Rullier and now Matt Smaby), Lundin could be signed pretty quick - pending education issues, I'm sure.

Coleman Update

Quick update on former Lightning prospect Gerald Coleman, who was traded last week as part of a package for Shane O'Brien. Coleman started for Portland against Manchester on Saturday night, allowing 5 goals on 29 shots, including 4 on 14 shots in the 3rd period to break open a 1-0 game. The Pirates lost 5-1.

Where in the World is Vladimir Mihalik?

How do you lose a teenager who's 6-8 and 240 pounds?

According to today's Prince George Citizen, the whereabouts of Lightning prospect Vladimir Mihalik are unknown.

"[Newly re-acquired goaltender] Scott Bowles just got in, [defenseman] Jesse Dudas just got in, and we don’t know where Vladimir Mihalik is,” said Cougars head coach Drew Schoneck told the Citizen. “We think he’s stormed in somewhere, flight issues, but we plan to use him today vs. Kelowna if he gets here in time, which we think he will."

Mihalik has yet to arrive in Prince George since playing in Sweden in the World Junior championships. He was reportedly given an extra week off by the Cougars.

Departed Defensive Prospect Returns To Tampa, Will Play Net This Weekend

According to TSN’s “Ice Chips,” former Lightning prospect and defenseman Andreas Holmqvist will return to Tampa this weekend and play goalie for the Lightning in one of their two games vs. Florida. This would seem like an odd move for the Lightning since they weren't happy with Andreas' work ethic when he was in North America a few years ago - and they signed Johan Holmqvist this summer from Sweden. Andreas had two assists in 10 games with Linkopings of the SEL before making this move across the ocean. Johan seemed to struggle a little in the late pre-season, but I don't think it was harsh enough to show him up like this.

Hee Haw Goes Hockey

The Moose Jaw Warriors released their third jersey logo this week. You have to wonder if former Warrior and Lightning prospect Blair Jones is regretting signing that professional contract since it means he can't don this jersey and go to battle.
