Choose Your Own Theme

Ok...

I enabled an option that allows site users to select their own theme from a set of "approved" themes. One of the themes will be the site default theme. You can customize your viewing theme by clicking My Account -> Edit and then scrolling down and selecting a theme from the list of loaded themes.

At this moment, there's only about three or four available. I've got a more, but I need to review them before activating some for user selection. I'll get to this later today, so check the comments on this post for some updated info from me.

New Look & Message Boards

Leave some feedback regarding the new look... like/dislike?

Also, there has been some chatter here and over at some of the other Lightning-focused message boards about Bolt Prospects getting into the message board business. First of all... the software that we use at BP has discussion forums built into it. So, it's really just a mouse click and a little configuration to get them up and rolling. Not much effort. But...

The BP staff have not really decided if we want to compete with the various message boards. We can probably be persuaded, but message boards are only fun if a lot of folks are contributing. And, even though our software has discussion forums built in, the software's main purpose is not to be a message board, but to be a knowledge base and community publishing forum. That can include discussion forums, but they won't be feature rich like some message board specialty software. But the forums integrate well with all the other community publishing options we are trying to grow here. Maybe the time has come... I can promise they won't ever be orange, but I can't promise you an ignore feature. But there are other ways to handle that.

Tarnasky nearing graduation...

With the NYR game, I believe Tarnasky now has 30 or 31 NHL games in a single season. Only needs about 10 more to qualify as a prospect graduate.

Site Gets Upgrade/Facelift

Lots of things happened Friday night...

The site's software got upgraded to the latest version, and look/feel got a facelift as well. More importantly, the site was moved to a new web host.

If you run into any problems, please comment here and I'll look into it. Feel free to any kind of feedback as well -- good or bad regarding the changes.

Site Update Done (Mostly...)

I've finished the bulk of the site upgrade process. You might still run across some things that I haven't fully re-configured or re-installed, but the most the day-to-day stuff is back. Most notable is that I haven't yet restored the image galleries. I'm still trying to decide what the final style and theme of the new site will be, so it may look different each time you visit over the next few days. Feel free to leave comments. :) I'll post more over the next few days. If you find some stuff not working, please leave a comment...

Site Update

Boltprospects.com will be undergoing a much needed site upgrade tonight. Please bear with any strangeness....

BP Maintenance Today

I'll be doing maintenance on the BP site today (March 25). If you access, the site may not behave properly. I'll repost when all is well again.

BBCode and CSV Filter

After a number of days of posting content using the HtmlArea plug-in, I've decided to switch it off. The main reason for using it was the built in HTML table generation. But, in the end, I didn't like the way it created and formatted tables. In essence, it allowed too much flexibility in table generation, and I was looking for a way to lock down a single BP site style for our tables. There's a much better module for that called [b]CSV Filter[/b]. Also, I didn't like the way HtmlArea created all these new paragraphs. It just didn't feel *right*. Anyway, I turned it and the contextlinks module off.

Site Configuration Progress

Today... I think I've managed to finalize the user roles and permissions for the BP community. I also got the hourly cron job installed so that Drupal time-based events and triggers will be executed. Finally, I got the site locked down against non-friendly web crawlers per Nic Ivy's recommendations from http://njivy.org/node/677.

Next up to the plate are:

  • Getting a handle on the taxonomy of the site
  • Getting the forums up and running
  • Testing the user permissions using some fictious role-based users
  • Installation/configuration of the following plug-in modules: Attached Node, bookmarks, captcha, CSV-filter, Feedback, Glossary, Image, Image Filter, Image Assist, Notify, Print Friendly Pages, Quote, Title, Urlfilter, userposts
